Slayer replaces drummer on eve of Aussie tour

http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/2013/02/21/20598651.html

This has been brewing for awhile and I imagine it will get ugly shortly

From what I gather, Dave Lombardo left the band for ten years and came back in 2002. While he was away slayer got smart with their business and set it up that Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, and Kerry King who have all been in the band since 1981 (Lombdardi was the original drummer but left in 86 for a bit and then left in 92 to come back in 2002) set it up that Lombardi was not a full member of the band and not entitled to the management fees (the band more or less manages themselves with the help of a few lawyers) and because they do not sell millions and millions of CD they got creative with how they structured the band to make sure they get to retain more money and pay less to the collective governments around the world (all bands who spend time on the road do this and it is nothing new)--But because Lomdardi was gone for ten years, the rest of the band have more or less (according to previous reports) put him on short term contracts and a pay as he plays contract and obviously they this is for a reason

Damn that's too bad. Hope they mend things but it doesn't sound too promising. The rest of the band come of as douches if the article is true, but there's gotta be more to it than that.

Lombardo is an incredible drummer. An important part of the band, its too bad he doesn't get the respect he deserves.

I saw Slayer live once, every song sounded the same. Luckily Metallica came on after and was way better.

Who'se Lomdardi OP????

In all seriousness though, Lombardo is a beast. And as much as this sucks for him, Slayer should just hang it up.

IMO, "Seasons In The Abyss" was their last truly good album.

I used to work at a metal radio station in the bay area in the 80's and met Slayer more than once.

If you can't say anything nice about a lead singer, I won't say anything at all.

It was known when he came back that it wasn't a permanent thing, so this isn't really a surprise.

Hope he rejoins before their next studio album, the ones they did without him were missing something.

Their last two albums have been outstanding, there best work since Seasons.World Painted Blood was a great album.

In my opinion Lombardo is and was a good but not an amazing drummer. If we're going by influence he was way up there though. He was one of the first to coalesce double-bass drumming. And he was tasteful--he plays for the song not himself. One of my favorites.

By most accounts Kerry King is a dick as well, but he was as cool as could be when I met him once. I was expecting otherwise, but he turned out really cool.

Ive heard that opposite that Kerry King is a great guy and awesome to the fans.

From what I have have read, he is a real outgoing guy and he will shoot the **** with you and have a shot of Yager with fans.

Funny you mention that. That was my experience, literally, as he greeted fans during Ozzfest at the Jagermeister tent

Didn't know about all that legal stuff, sucks though Lombardo was a stud drummer. Saw Slayer at Mayhem Fest, Tom's voice isn't the best anymore but music wise they still kick ass. Wonder who replaces Dave in the long term.

Jon Dette. He was briefly their drummer in the 90s when Paul Bostaph left for a while. I don't think he played on any of their albums though.

Bostaph was a beast, but Lombardo was the best drummer they ever had.

Probably the best to ever play on a thrash record besides Gene Hoglan.

Is Jeff Hanneman still unable to play guitar???

If so, Slayer would be best to hang it up.
