4-5-3. That's the record when you remove the worst division in hockey. That's not coasting.

And Chicago is the only team we've beaten so far that is currently in the playoff position I think. And that was in the shootout. Team has problems since last Jan.

Casual coaching, this team needs a swift kick in the ass...somehow he's not providing it

Well we beat Anaheim too but it's besides the point.

It allows them to be complacent, so no, I don't love it.

Last season, Canucks broke out of their funk twice past Christmas: against Boston and against Detroit. This time, nothing.

4 of the 7 non-playoff teams are in the NW, and they haven't played CBJ yet. Those 4 wins pretty much had to come from playoff teams.

True, but it also allows us an almost guaranteed playoff spot, in the toughest divisions there is no room for error

I've been training for my fight with Floyd Mayweather by fighting six-year-olds for the last year. I'm 87-0. Wish me luck!

We're missing something up front, and I think it's becoming more apparent. We miss the off-Sedin scoring threat that Kes was in 2010/11 (and which I lament he is unlikely to return to being). We desperately need Gillis to work his magic and get us someone to play with Kes up front. Higgins has no creativity, Hansen has stone hands, Booth confuses himself when he gets the puck, Raymond has returned to doing semicircles around the perimeter and they need to send a search party to find Zack Kassian (hint: he's in his own zone, giving pucks away).

I am seriously worried about this team in the next 2-3 years, when the Twins inevitably start to have Father Time catch up to them. We have ZERO game breaking scoring talent under the age of 28 (Jensen still hasn't proven anything). It's gonna be grim unless MG spins Lu/Schneids into something wonderful. Like Kadri, who is having a break out year, and who would look damn good in the blue and green right about now.

But I love our D. It's in good hands with Tanev, Edler and Hamhuis for the next half-decade. That part I'm not so concerned about.

This is a strange and unconventional season. We're in a solid spot, no need to be playing at 100% every game, selling out, doing all that stuff Phoenix was doing this game. They are in a real battle and we are just cruising. They might win a few games like this but we will be fresher for when it matters. Canucks are playing at about 75% tops right now, I think that's a smart decision. President's Trophy never did us any good anyways, let's be happy with our 2nd/3rd place. You people who are expecting perfection every night, who are DEMANDING perfection every night, y'all need to get a freaking grip already. Put your fanship on cruise control and just relax for God's sake.
I bought into this mindset last year. The team was playing very similar to how it is now after that Boston game yet still managed a second consecutive presidents trophy, a lot of good that did them. I think that's what pisses me off the most about the whole thing, the record sheet looks good but the on ice product is very questionable.

The lack of consistent effort is what bothered me then and its what bothers me now, except this time I refuse to convince myself that it's to 'conserve energy' so that they can 'turn it on for the playoffs'.

It would be more like either:

1) Facing a bunch of very good fighters for a chance to make it to the fight
or
2) Facing a bunch of guys you will destroy and have an ensured fight.

Im not saying it doesn't have it's downsides, but we would be likely out of a playoff spot if we were in another division. You could argue that it makes us worse in the PO and I would be inclined to agree, but if you get into the playoffs, you have a shot.

That conserving energy mindset is such ********.
We were playing the Phoenix Coyotes, and two of their best forwards weren't playing (Vrbata and Hanzal).
We were dominated and embarrassed by the Red Wings last game as well.

This is just pathetic.
