Tomas Kopecky

How good is he now in Florida?
Was he clearly a product of Hossa in Chicago?
Or is he capable of repeating his 40+ points?

He's played really well for the most part. He's great along the boards and is a solid PKer.

He's currently on pace for around 40 points, so he should end up somewhere between 35-45, but based on the role he's been playing, that's perfectly acceptable.

He's also been shuffled around due to the injuries to Goc, Upshall and Samuelsson, so it's really hard to say where exactly he'll fit. He's been playing center due to the injury to Goc, but I find he is more effective as a winger. He'll likely end up as a winger on the 3rd line, possible 2nd.

He's an emergency center that can play alright on any line, first through fourth, in a number of roles. He's obviously better suited to a bottom six role, but he's the ultimate utility player.

Oh, a Canucks fan? (I honestly don't know), but if so, I guess Malholtra should be making 500,000 by that logic.

I think he can be around 40, and I don't think he's a product of anyone. I absolutely love the way he plays. There aren't a whole lot of guys out there who can make a career out of digging the puck out the boards.

He's playing really well in Florida as people have already been pointing out he has been shuffled about lines and positions quite a lot which has reduced his effectiveness in some games. In my opinion he is much better as a winger but he always works hard and provides the team with grit.

Except for the ultimate talent he lacks. I never liked him in Chicago. Especially last year when he had to play in our top 6.

That's why I said alright. He can pass, shoot, score dirty goals, hit and play defense. He just doesn't do anything above average. He's a jack of all trades with no real weaknesses to his game other then you want him to be better at all the things he can do.

He shouldn't be making over 2 million a year but that doesn't really matter to Florida.

Pretty sure he is a Hawks fan.

Anyway, Kopy will show flashes of brilliance followed by maddening offensive zone penalties. He had a knack of scoring big goals but on a contending team shouldn't be anywhere near the top-6.

Not even close bud.

I like Kopecky, just not worth the price tag. But like someone mentioned earlier, Florida has all kinds of $$$.

He's been great. Plays hard along the boards, pokes and irritates the opposing goalie, defensively responsible, and can chip in with some offense. Seems to have found line-mates with Matthias and Bergienheim who both play somewhat similar games.

Always been a fan of his. I think that he still has the potential to be an above 50 point guy.

I was just mad that he was seeing top 6 minutes last year. The same way i'm mad Carcillo, Brunette, and Stalberg are seeing top 6 minutes this year.

It's hard to put a price on a guy who is willing to work his butt off, fight in the corners, and create havoc in front of the goalie so other guys can make goals happen. These kind of players are underrated, they do the dirty work to let the scorers do their job. He's had his ups and downs but generally has been a big help on the team.

No he isn't going to light the world on fire, but he's an important cog in the system. He's only sniffing top 6 minutes because of injuries, that's the reality with 4 forwards out, but he's done admirably with the time given to him. Points aren't everything. Ask Jonathan Quick how he feels about Kopecky

The funny thing is Detroit fans here laughed at the Hawks for giving him 1.2M. He's proven to be a quality NHL player. Glad to hear he is doing well.

He's a good hockey player. Of course, playing with Marian Hossa helps. But he's much better than the "4th line player" we heard about. He can play literally anywhere on the forward lines and fit in.

That's definitely true but I still think his best spot is on the 4th. He's one of the few guys that can play the 4th line and come through with big goals on a consistent basis.

If you are deep enough, sure. But on most teams he's better than a 4th line player. He wouldn't even be 4th line on the Hawks anymore.

He's a guy who you won't question about a lack of effort. Gives his all and is a great team player. Lacks the skill to flourish in top 6 but can play there in a spot.

He's got the skills to be a decent 2nd line guy. Like others have said, he has no real weaknesses and works hard.

I personally thought he looked pretty good with the Wings when he played for them a few times.

Ole' stone hands Kopecky. He's actually a very smart and gritty player but his hands can't keep up. That will ultimately relegate him to a middle-six tweener.

Most honest summary Ive seen here.

Havent seen in years a guy go into the corners without a puck and come out with one as often as he does.

Irritiating in the old Esse Tikkanen fashion.

Worth every penny, an important cog in a division leading team.
