They'll match it. Don't see them giving him away for a first. the 3rd is insignificant.

I strongly believe Colorado will match. I don't think they should though.

If the Avs don't match and that first is

10+ - Great job by Calgary
5-10 - Meh.
1-4 - It'll be Feaster's head.

Avs have been sitting around waaaaay too long and haven't dealt with this situation at all. More than likely Sherman was being greedy and teams weren't budging.

if the Avs match it - we'll know real soon.

if they don't, they'll most likely make Calgary wait the whole week.

Huh? Duchene only signed for 2 years.

If ROR plays well for Calgary (but not fantastic), I think it's entirely plausible that he would consider an 8 year $5.5-6M contract, rather than rolling the dice again and taking a $6.5M QO.

If he plays fantastic for them, then $6.5M is a great starting point for negotiations.

If he sucks, Calgary doesn't qualify him, and ROR likely gets even less on the open market. Heck, Calgary could still even re-sign him at that point for way less.

Point is, anything can happen, so there is no point in jumping to conclusions.

I don't get why the Flames did this... they are a bottom team in a very strong draft year. If they finish bottom 5 it will have been a very dumb move IMO.

Not sure what Calgary is thinking here.

Giving away what should be a decent 1st round and 3rd round pick, for 1.25 years of a young somewhat unproven player, who hasn't played an NHL game for nearly a year. Their prospect pool is lacking as it is. And they aren't likely to be a real cup contender this year or next. Even with ROR in the lineup they aren't a sure playoff team.

As an Oilers fan I dont mind this move however. Either way though a division rival is getting a decent player or a decent draft selection. But I prefer to see Calgary worse off, and I think if ROR goes there, they will not benefit in the long run.

If this would have been a 4 or 5 year deal, maybe that would make more sense?

question is, how deep of a draft is it and how better does this make the flames? Some people are suggesting that this is a pretty deep draft and that a top ten pick could get you are a very good player.

Avs fan could also clue us in on how much problem there is in the dressing room between ROR and Duschene and Landeskog? I think it was HNIC that talked about there being an issue

First the Wideman signing and now this?

Calgary looks desperate this year. Reminds me of what happened to Vanek.

Colorado matches obviously.

Talk about expensive center depth lol.

You haven't taken in account if a player falls as well, like Couturier.

Colorado should take the picks, they do not need ROR, a lot of good defense in this draft. Fans will go sour on him if he does not live up to the unreasonable and ridiculously high expectations set for him by fans.

EDIT: He is getting 2 MIL too much per for a bridge contract

Ryan O'Reilly is about to be had for single 1st round pick in the 11-16 range.

Calgary is sitting .500 right now and good news is on the way: Calgary gets Kipper back AND adds O'Reilly. They will be in the mix for a playoff spot up until the last week of the season.

The people saying this pick will turn into MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin, or Barkov need to get real. If they weight the lotto like the NBA does, then this most likely 11/12/13/14 pick has a less than 1% chance of turning into the #1 overall. The only way Colorado gets one of the Big 4 is if they use their own pick (or package the picks)

Of course they will. Flames have three games this week. The results of those might have a big impact on how Avalanche value the compensation picks.

This is a win-win situation for the Oilers, Canucks and Wild.

Thanks Feaster!

Av's and Flames have 7 days to work out another form of compensation other than the standard 1st and 3rd.

My gut tells me the Av's match

People also forget with conference alignment we won't see Calgary nearly as much as we do now. I take the picks.

Jones/MacKinnon with a first to spare? Yes please.
