Rumour: Flyers interested in Dustin Byfuglien

Per Eklund's blog today:

Quote:
It isn't going to happen immediately, but I have it from three sources now that the Flyers have interest in acquiring Dustin Byfuglien from Winnipeg. They like his size, his ability to play defense or forward and his scoring touch. The Flyers spent this last summer trying to get a replacement for Chris Pronger with an offer out to Ryan Suter and by signing an offer sheet for Shea Weber. They were so lacking for size and strength on the D-end that they dealt JVR for Luke Schenn...a trade on which many feel the Flyers lost, but to be honest it was a trade they absolutely HAD to make.

Eklund is somewhat reliable when it comes to the Flyers. He's broken several stories before others have.

Buff for Schenn bros?

Eklund does have sources in Philly its not deniable. He broke the Richards trade. That said just because they want him does not mean we deal him

I would be dismissing if I were you guys, usually, as it's Eklund, but I have to say, he DOES have connections to the Flyers. Also, I don't think it means anything, but he also broke the Buff to Atlantapeg trade.

FWIW.

I doubt you guys trade Buff, just saying this may actually have some validity.

He says they have interest in acquiring Byfuglien, not that they are in talks to acquire him. I assume most NHL teams have interest in getting a player like Byfuglien. IMO, there's no news here just Eklund being Captain Obvious.

True that, true that.

Wordplay is everything, seems I missed it.

Move along, folks, nothing to see here.

Buff is so dynamic, it'd hurt to lose him as he's the catalyst to this team. Just look how much we hurt when he was injured.

Buff is absolutely the catalyst of the Jets offense and they need him more than Philly does - offense isn't their issue at all.

That's perfectly valid. The same could be said for Ottawa.

I'm not sure why the Jets would trade Buff. We could use a few bits and pieces, but it's nothing we can't get on the FA market or through drafting. This would also leave a huge hole on our blue line.

We should probably wait and see how Trouba develops before we consider trading Enstrom or Buff.

I'd snap trade one for one for Voracek.

Would love Simmonds too, but I think the Flyers may have to add there. Simmonds and a 2nd?

Simmonds is the only one on that Flyers team that I would trade for but Flyers would have to add a huge + to acquire Buff

If we are not in a playoff fight come deadline. I would consider something with Buf, if we could get back, a good forward off Philly. Espically with Trouba coming up, and hopefully Redmond making a recovery for next year we hope! Not to mention we still have Toby, Bogo, Stuart

Of course I've watched Buff. He's a fine player. Simmonds is too, and a high 2nd (if the Flyers continue to suck) in a deep draft is pretty decent.

Maybe my value is a little off, but if you think it's "gross", you're underrating Simmonds.
