don't you get it? draft position is the ultimate indicator of potential. Even if they've been a sever let down thus far, they were taken that high because that potential still exists, not because it's an inexact science!

No way do i do buf for L schenn and a second. Luke and a first and i'm still not sold. Buff is criminally underrated.

I mean Schenn at his best is probably a very good shutdown guy. But he's no more consistent than Buff. And has zero offense at all.

How about we keep Buff. Keep Enstrom. Keep Bogosian. And Trouba. We could have the most dynamic defense in the league save for Karlsson playing 30 mins for Ottawa.

Buff's a fan favorite so I don't see him going anywhere unless something big is offered in return.

I think you are getting Holmgren confused with Steve Tambalini in Edmonton

Flyers do not lose many trades

It makes a lot of sense that the Flyers would be interested in Byfuglien.

It is also clear that they have enough young pieces to acquire him.

The question is really just how much would they be willing to pay. Would it be enough for the Jets to trade the player, that for all his flaws, makes the team's offence work.

edit: For example, if the Flyers offered Brayden Schenn, Shayne Gostisbehere, and their 1st, is that an offer the Jets could easily walk away from? I think it would be hard, especially when you consider that the Flyers are currently below us in the standings.

The point was that the Flyers would have to overpay to get Buff so it isn't likely.

It amazes me how overvalued some people have L Schenn at. I wouldn't take him over any of the Jets top four D men.

The only way we trade Buff is for three or four players whose weight adds up to his.

seriously though, don't trade him.

I don't hate the idea of the Schenns as a return....but that doesn't seem to be enough to me. It's not like the two of them are exactly lighting It up right now.

I'd probably pull the trigger on Voracek and first or Simmonds+Luke Schenn+ 2nd, but not alot else.

It is very unfortunate that people who critique Buff (or other favourites) are labeled 'anti-Buff'. When Buff is healthy and on his game there is no one better. But he's going to have a short shelf life and you've got to give up quality to get quality.

These are both valid arguments. A lot of people get labeled "haters" when all they are doing is rationally discussing a proposal/idea etc. Very few times does someone just spew junk, and those that do are usually in and out quickly and not regular posters.

Buff having a limited length to his career is a legitimate concern. We is a very big man who has been showing signs of wear and tear over the last couple of years. When Buff is healthy he can dominate especially good Buff who pays attention to defense. One of my big concerns is if we do make the playoffs is Buff is banged up to the point he can't contribute like he can when healthy.

That being said the Schenn brothers would be a very tempting offer and one I doubt Philly would make.

Buff is a high impact player and criminally underrated, as some people have suggested. I do think that Chevy will have to balance his long term viability with the franchise, because I think he only has an output of a few more years before his injuries bog him down. We are already witnessing this in the last couple of seasons.

Yuuuuup. He creates more than he is credited for, IF he were traded that would leave a huge hole on our D, so that handcuffs Chevy into a D for D trade and I don't see anyone on the Flyers D that can replace Buff. IF Redmond and Enstrom were healthy and Trouba was a shoe in for next year, MAYBE Buff for a top forward and a pick. I would love to see Hartnell on the Jets but the stars are not aligned right now.

You saved me typing essentially the same thing.

I really think that he's such a big guy who's body isn't designed for the type of work hockey demands over a long period of time. He's absolutely underrated and one of my favorite Jets, but I have to be honest, I see injuries piling for him over the next year or two.

I was starting to warm up to a Buff for Voracek, gervais + 2013 1st, but the playoffs are in sight.

I'd like the Jets add to, rather than subtract, Big Buff.

Why? Is a small, 35 year old centre with 2 years left on his contract the missing piece for a cup right now?

I don't understand why Buff is the "second best d-man" in the league. He's arguably the second best d-man on the Jets roster but he's 32nd among d-men in scoring in the league per the NHL web site. If its potential, he's reached his physical maturity point. And I would put him back on offense.

As to the rumor, Philly is getting desperate. They have been desperate to acquire a signature d-man for some time.

I would take L Schenn and a first and give Buff and a 4th. Would not take Briere. Would take Simmonds.

Ew. Hell no.

Only trade I'd accept is for Giroux. I feel bad saying it; I love Buff and hope he retires here.

He was the second best "Offensive" D man in the league last year and only played 66 games. In 2010-2011 he was 4th in points. He's 32nd this year in points (7 points behind #1), but has played 14 games (and some of those injured it seems).

Simmonds and a second and third rounder in 2014. I'd do this trade immediately b4 the Flyers come to their senses.
