WWE Invites Glenn Beck to Raw

Quote:
STAMFORD, Conn., February 22, 2013 – WWE has extended an invitation to talk show host and political commentator, Glenn Beck to appear live this Monday on Raw, in response to a segment that aired on TheBlaze TV yesterday. In the segment, Beck references WWE as "stupid wrestling people," when criticizing a recent WWE storyline involving WWE characters Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio®, Jack Swagger® and Zeb Colter®. WWE is giving Beck the opportunity to address our 14 million weekly viewers and our global fan base, as he believes we are offending our "conservative" fans with this storyline.

Similar to other television shows and feature films, WWE is in the entertainment business, creating fictional characters that serve as protagonists or antagonists. To create compelling and relevant content for our audience, it is important to incorporate current events into our storylines. WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view. This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE's large Latino base, which represents 20 percent of our audience.
This is hilarious and awesome.

And maybe there's hope that nothing ends up happening to Swagger after all and this angle continues? Maybe work it into the angle as well? Based off the recent Colter/Swagger YouTube videos about "English", "Jobs" and "Political Correctness", they can work it in and say the cop was an illegal and couldn't speak a word of English and misjudged him or something like that. Not likely to happen, but I'd love it.

This angle is giving WWE TONS of mainstream publicity right now and they're really pushing the envelope and pissing off a lot of people. I love it.

Beck may have actually saved Swagger's push, at least until Wrestlemania. It's only after Linda McMahon is out of politics that Vince starts growing balls again.

I'm always so shocked when people are idiots like Beck. They are creating a bad guy to get people to boo. They want that "action" booed. Not cheered. You ****ing moron. They over-think everything.

I also hate the argument that people think it's real. NOBODY THINKS ITS REAL! Nobody does. We enjoy a good program and it's all writing just like any tv show or movie.

Is this meant to glorify or demonize him?

WWE is exactly right, this is entertainment, it's no different than if they did this in a movie. Now that they aren't so caught up in potentially giving Linda's opponents ammunition, they can actually do things like this again.

This is great. I can't stand Beck and the fact that he is calling out the E because of a STORYLINE and FICTIONAL CHARACTER makes this even more merrier to me.

I hope he shows up. Just to see his smug face get ripped a new one.

I'm Mexican and I don't find it offensive.

If it was real, then yeah, but it's entertainment...

Which is more entertaining in a debate format, Beck vs Zeb or Beck vs Punk.

WWE's gonna continue pushing this and is gonna call out Beck anyways on Raw, and he won't appear, which will continue to get them more attention.

Vince finally has the grapefruits back for now, it seems. Controversy creates cash.

They could do what Bischoff did at Slamboree 98 and have a match where Vince wins by countout.

I think Beck and other people in the media are overreacting since this is just a storyline and I don't think they've really gone that far with it. But I definitely don't see WWE characters the same way is see a character in a movie. You don't see actors being referred to by their movie character name when they're doing interviews. You don't see them staying in character on Twitter. Wrestling is different than movies as they are at least somewhat trying to give off the illusion that it's all real.

It's pretty cheap for WWE to be inviting him to Raw. They knew he wasn't going to accept and I bet they will try to make it look like he's a coward for not showing up. Beck knows WWE is just trying to get some publicity out of it, so why would he come to Raw?

Even though they may try to give the illusion that it's real it isn't, it's just entertainment, it's just a "story".

I understand that and I think Beck is stupid for taking the character so seriously. I'm just saying characters in wrestling shouldn't be treated the exact same as characters in movies and on TV.

CM Punk's tweet is the best because he references my favourite movie.

Quote:
WWE officials are reportedly angry that Glenn Beck turned down their invite to appear on Raw. As a result, WWE is now planning to mock Glenn Bock on Monday's Raw and Stephanie McMahon called for a big rewrite of Monday's Raw script.

I fail to see any reason why not. They ARE characters on TV.
