Penalty Kill System Question

A few months ago, I was watching the Tri-City Americans play against the Vancouver Giants and something really caught my eye: their penalty.

Often, you would have a forward take led of the penalty kill formation as opponents try to enter the zone.

But what the Tri-City Americans did was have the defenseman up front. The defenseman would be the first player to pressure the opposing forwards zone entry.

So it would be a 1-2-1 formation but the 1 being defensemen. The defensemen would then drop down following the forward into the corner, and then taking his position as a defenseman deep in the corner, and the forward switching and moving to take his spot covering the point.

Its a system that seemed to really work, but seemed very different from the norm. Does anyone know the name of the system or how it is run?
