Iginla at the right price + a defenseman that can log Top 4 pairing minutes would be enough to then raise expectations to at least a Conference Final appearance. Hope Shero can pull it off by April 3rd.

I dont like our chances in an arms race, always seem to lose those. What contenders have the space to go after him?

Yep. It's just a matter of what return makes sense for Toronto.

IMO that's what is most needed, a tough stay at home guy.

Tyler. Kennedy. Sucks.

For Perry, you would have to give up Despres, Bennett, a prospect and a first for starters.

Nobody wants that third line scrub unless hes a throw in.

I'd rather us go after a couple of solid top 6 options than pay Perry 8+mil, but if the Ducks like what we have to offer, I'm sure Shero will at least try.

I'd rather trade for two top 6 wingers at the moment, but than again, Perry is amazing and if we somehow pull of a Rick Nash type of deal, I'm so down for that (won't happen but still).

I think we'd be good enough. Maybe not the favorite as Boston is ridiculous, but we'd be good enough to beat anyone in the east at least.

Imagine Corey Perry with the Bruins...

This is not an easy situation, because for sure Perry will be coming East (at least temporarily via trade). So, if we don't go after him, he'll improve someone else we may have to play.

AND, they don't want prospects here. They're in contention out West. Very very tricky situation.

I do think we need a winger but saying that If the pens lose in the playoffs I dont think it will be because they couldn't score enough goals. It will probably either be defense lack of discipline or injuries. Were 2nd in the league right now in goals and thats basically with zero production front that 2nd line winger. If their was one thing i wish the pens could get it would be a top pair def but their so hard to get u dont even hear any rumors for those type of players.

Yeah to me that's a championship line up if Bennett can survive in a top 9 role.

Now who that would be that's available in the league, I dunno.
Jerome Iginla.

We rely too much on our power play for offense. I don't think we have enough five-on-five offense to go up against Boston and others.

Yes, we are a little suspect on defense but it could very well be that the best solution to the top pairing D need is in-house.

But for me, the bottom line is we're not 1 or 2 players away. We need to make a hockey trade and weed out some of the drek from this roster in the process.

Keep the prospects. Make a hockey trade.

I have to think if ANA knows that Perry will not be resigning this far away from the trade deadline they are going to try a sign and trade to get his maximum value. I wonder if he has his sights on one or two places.

Sign and trade? This happens so rarely in hockey it's not worth discussing.

How often does a top five winger in the league on a team which has a record of like 15-3 say that will not be signing with that team in the offseason? (if it is actually true). Not very often either. If he did actually say that, he has to have somewhere in mind that he would like to play.

Surprising that would be announced so early considering how well the team is doing.

What would everyone think about a deal between Pittsburgh and Edmonton centered around Kris Letang and Jordan Eberle? (this would probably need done in the offseason since the Pens need Letang for the Playoff run and Letang is due for a big raise)

I love the way Eberle plays the game. Think he would be ideal winger for Crosby.

So why would he sign? There's nothing in it for him to sign and then be traded. If he has a place in mind, that place will either come after him this summer or doesn't want him.

It happened to Marian Hossa when he went to Atlanta, but he had JUST signed a new deal and he was led to believe he wouldn't get dealt by the Sens.
