The Drive for Ninth Is ON!! Two in a Row

The Good -

- Nice to see Gerbe get the silverback removed from his shoulders
- Ott with a three point night?
- Hits! Hits for everyone! Even the air was credited with 6 hits tonight.
- Scott-Parros was a decent tilt after Scott popped Kulikov.
- Van's shootout goal was impressive. So too Pominville's.

The Bad -

- Faceoffs. Still a major problem for everyone not wearing #9.
- Regehr too soft on his clears.
- 2-on-1's. They suck. Take the shot, will ya?

The Ugly -

- Did I mention faceoffs?
- Watching a raft of Panthers drop and flop. Bruins be damned, there might be a new Luoganis winner in the East.
- Pardy. Go help the Amerks win.
- Clemmenson. Wow.
- They blow two leads. Is this Miami Vice/Tony Montana's South Florida with that much blow going on in Sunrise?

Blow 2 leads including a 2 goal lead? No problem. Get out shot almost 2x? No problem. Ladies and Gentlemen your Buffatrolls, marching their way to the 9th place spot once again.

Sad thing is we're only 4 points out...

Haven't we played more games though?

Listen, I have no doubt we're missing the playoffs, but what, realistically, would we need to get in?

17-5-5 or something?

Now if they just win the next four in a row, they'll be back to .500.

On Philly we do. But there are a few teams between us that have games in hand on us.

Sort of. Philly's in 8th, but Winnipeg and NYR both have 3 games in hand on them and are only 1-2 points back.

Not sure who's worse: the Sabres or the Panthers.

Wow! What a pair of bad hockey teams.

My play of the game goes to Vanek's hit on Kulikov along the wall, puck nowhere in sight. Got a good laugh out of it.

Great hit, total penalty, no call...

Vanek basically dares the goaltender to make the first move...he comes in so slow, just waiting and then he has the quick release to take advantage once the goaltender gets too antsy and makes his move.

A lot of non calls tonight on both sides. (Interference on the last Panther goal).

I fell asleep for the 1st period and watched the rest of the game.. of course there's 1 more goal after a 5 goal first.

They played alright. Probably should've lost. But I guess in a race for the bottom pick, at least it was a three point game.

At the current state of the East (top-heavy, no truly terrible teams), .500 looks like it would do it. However, that's unlikely to carry through the entire season. If I had to take a shot at the cutoff, I would say 52 would do it.

So 35 points in the last 27 games. 17-9-1, 16-8-3, 15-7-5...somewhere in there.

Or, if the goalie's too patient, he just snaps it without warning to a spot the goaltender isn't. The release is so nasty that the goalie has no time to react.

His overall shootout percentage for his career isn't impressive. He tried to do too much early in his career and it never worked. The past couple of seasons he just comes in and picks a spot and never seems to miss. His release is fast as lightning and he's accurate to boot. Pretty unstoppable on a penalty shot.

I'd be willing to bet his percentage is close to 90% over the past three seasons. He's got to be the best shooter over that stretch, top three around the league at least.

I didn't hate watching the game, they won and they only gained one point on Florida. Didn't get an ROW either which matters!

5/6 in 10-11, but only 3/8 in 11-12. It felt like he was better than that to me, too, honestly.

True.

Some players own the shootout because of their dekes. He owns it because of his release...and he knows it. He knows that deking isn't his special weapon.

I can speak from experience....having someone walk in on you that you know has a nasty release is absolutely no fun at all.

Of course, I've been on the other side of that equation too

I'm shocked by that 3/8 last season.

I guess my brain just remembers the snipes.

So two against Jersey in the next 4 and road games against the Rangers and Canes. Certainly all winnable games....but all very loseable as well.

3 points for Ott.
Vanek and Pommer in the shootout.
The majoriy of the first.

Bad:

The second and third.
Officiating.

Ugly:

Blowing two different leads.
The anthem.
Panthers (particularly Huberdeau) diving left and right.
Mueller's Mullet.
