I really wonder how people would react if a European player had made Brouwer's comments about Hamrlik and Neuvirth during the lockout and then made these about an ex-teammate other than Semin.

#CapitalsTalk Say what you want about Troy Brouwer. The guy speaks his mind and we need more players like that.
I will go on record and say we need more... I am sorry I am laughing as I try and type this, we need more reporters like Chuck Gormley. Speaks his mind, in a slow and monotonous way; bonus, while wearing too much pancake makeup. Being a cellar dweller, its the small things to get through the games sometimes.
Any time I read Gormley's twitter posts I read it in his voice.

Euro or not, irrelevant. I'd love it if Ovechkin was the one being brutally honest to the press for a change.

6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
Prior to this season, Semin's career s% was over 14%. This season it's 7%. He's bound to have a breakout game sooner or later. I just hope it's not this Tuesday.

That's cute. A quote worth keeping in mind regarding Semin:
"All things are subject to interpretation. Whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth."

For all of Ovechkin's warts, he understands that what's said to the media is altogether inconsequential. He prefers things to be kept in the room and IMO that's how it should be. Some players love to flap their gums when the media puts things on a tee for them but what does it accomplish? Absolutely nothing.
Brouwer's comments are nothing but a distraction. Sure they're honest but what purpose does it serve?
Someone had to pick up the torch with Laich out I guess.
Nearly my entire family though, were teachers (Ann Arbor educated.... the worst kind )... and I grew up in well stocked libraries, when I wasn't in my Dad's TV repair shop.
One book that made an impression was "Instant Replay"... written by the Green Bay Packer's All-Pro center, Jerry Kramer.
Great book, as Kramer's coach was the late, great Vince Lombardi, before VL's days in DC.
And the Pack, with Paul Hornung and Bart Starr, were where it was at in the NFL in those days.
Kramer talked a lot about doing what Brouwer did today: talking about your opponent in the press before a game.
Kramer said that Lombardi taught them this: if you make comments about an opponent, the next thing you know, one of your opponent's coaches will read it, clip it out, and put it right in the middle of that team's bulletin board: and your opponent's coach will use it as motivation.
Which is why Kramer said that the only quotes anyone on the Packer's would make about an opponent was something like "They're a fine team..."

The cognitive dissonance of Canes fans is ridiculous. Semin was a Canes killer, yet they pretend he is playing great for them. He's playing like he did last year under Hunter.
Quite frankly, if he plays like this with Staal as his center basically carrying him, I'm fine with the Caps not signing him, I was all for signing him, but he's doing anything special. Canes fans were fascinated when he didn't have a goal with him hitting the post and crossbar and thinking of those as goals, its not even a shot, who gives a ****.

I want the Caps players egging on the competition as much as possible. Spice things up. Make it interesting and make so they have to be held to account.

Lotta wisdom there.
Holy over reaction. At no time did Brouwer comment about the Canes or Alexander Semin's play with the Canes. Brouwer commented about Alexander Semin when Alexander Semin was a Washington Capital and a teammate of Troy Brouwer. Troy Brouwer noted Semin's talent and that he did not always play to the level of his talent (nothing that we have not heard from others in the past) when he was with the Capitals which was frustrating to Brouwer and we know to us fans. Brouwer then basically said the Capitals have moved on without Semin. That's it in a nutshell, people need to stop reading into something that's just not there.
Perhaps its not reading that blows but rather reading comprehension.
I think what Brouwer did was on purpose. He went all-in. He made this game even more important for both sides, adding motivation for both squads. Brouwer really made it a challenge.
I wouldn't be surpise to see him making a big pump-up speech to. If they want to make the playoffs, they CAN NOT LOSE.

Well now that Tim Brent of the Canes has gone on twitter defending Semin and saying he hopes Semin "sticks it to them", anyone else think that Semin ripping the Caps for a tew goals tomorrow night will suck any hope of the Caps getting on a roll?
Brouwer should do his talking on the ice......dude talks a lot of ****
I think it's a better theory of why he said what he did, than you have shared.
It's a totally absurd theory. I still think he was joking.
Anyway, there's no need for a "theory" to explain it. It's Matt Bradley 2.0. That's all there is to it, and there's no need whatsoever to go searching for some deeper explanation. Stone-brained Canadian grinder resents a better hockey player whom he doesn't understand.
You should read some of the comments from Chicago's fans on the main board.

Not saying Ovy has to air dirty laundry but being more candid at times can be effective. Savvy players and coaches have used the media effectively for decades....
Brouwer either made a rookie mistake and bit, or he simply didn't give a damn and spoke his mind when asked.

Do what talking on the ice ? You mean he should have double the amount of goals semin has right now on the season? Or should he have more power play goals?
