Considering we have posters who probably remember avidly watching Suter's dad in the 80 Olympics and JP play for the N*, we kind of already are seeing that no??

Remember both like it was yesterday which of course what i was referencing about feeling old now that i am watching their kids. It is awesome to watch the games with my sons and tell them about cheering for Ryan and Zachs fathers.

TSN #8

Seven wins in the last eight brings the Wild to a season-high spot in the rankings, and they're doing it with next-to-nothing from RW Dany Heatley, who has one goal and is a team-worst minus-9 in the 11 games this month.
Ouch, TSN. Don't focus on Suter or Backstrom's stellar play, but instead on one of the few guys not producing. That's cool I guess

they might think to mention he's been on the third line the whole time, too. wonder if they point out the lack of production from other team's third lines

It's supposed to be a positive, we're winning without a top-player's contribution.

Wild fans are pretty sensitive lately about our players not getting the respect they deserve (Suter, Brodin the two obvious ones from polls and main board threads) so they want a shout out for someone.

Wasn't going to bring it up, but now that you did. We've got a good thing going here, but I've seen some fans (not just on these boards) suddenly becoming very cocky when it comes to Suter, Brodin, and the Wild in general. They're starting battles with other fan bases and quickly making enemies.

Don't take this the wrong way. Yes, we can brag a little for once about some of the gems that we now have on the team. But let's not jump the gun by hitting every board and stating we're gonna be better than some of those larger, consistently successful clubs yet. Most of those teams had to earn respect over time by winning, and that's the same path the Wild are gonna have to travel. We aren't there yet. And while things look good, we are still going on a small sample size based on this short season. We want to compete with the best and have our names listed with the top teams as contenders. But we haven't had the winning history to do so at this point. This club has A LOT to prove. I'm all for being optimistic, but we aren't in a place right now to huff and puff, beat our chests, gloat, or declare war when we see a power ranking not listing us in the top 5. Again, bragging a bit is fine. We get it from everyone else, and quite honestly we've earned it. There is major progress being made. But just remember that this team is going to have to pay its dues before getting respect.

Let's learn a lesson from Canucks' fans, and not put the cart before the horse.

Now go ahead and start calling me a Debbie Downer.

Koivu leading the wild in pts. "But he's not a first line center, and shouldn't be our captain!"

So the Wild come back for a home game and then it's right back to Dallas to play the Stars again. Hopefully can start a streak of wins in Dallas.

I have no issue with Koivu wearing the "C"...but I still think he's more perfectly suited to center a 2nd line on a quality team. IMO, there are about 10 legit first line centers in the League, and he's just on the outside of that list.

Crosby
Malkin
Staal
Getzlaf
Toews
Sedin
Tavares
Stamkos
Thornton
Datysuk

I put Koivu in the same group as guys like Kopitar, Backstrom, Richards, and Duchene.

Lol, according to your list of "first line centers" you basically have to be elite/generational talent to be a first line center. Not true at all.

Koivu is better suited for the 2nd line of a "quality" team? Huh? Isn't Mikko Koivu the leading scorer on the division leading Minnesota Wild.? Whatever you say pal!

If there are only 10 first line centers in the NHL, I think first line center is the wrong term for your criteria.

Go to iTunes. Click on "Dance/Electronic" section. Download the top 4 songs in each category. Pretty much where they are getting them from

Yes...my definition of 1st line center IS "elite"...And it's just my opinion, not an objective fact.

Same goes for my definition of a true #1 defenseman. The Wild has never had one until Suter signed last summer...Just because Spurgeon was the top scoring blueliner for the Wild last season, doesn't mean he is a #1 defenseman.

Honestly what I was thinking. The fact Tavares is supposed to be #1 and Koivu isn't, is quite laughable.

Thinking about that....I think that's fair actually. Sure, every team can use the term 'first line center' for their player who's on the first line, but it's not required to spread out one of them for every team. Some teams might have more than one (Pens obviously) and some might not have any as a result of that. Seems like a fair way to look at it.

at the same time, I still think Koivu falls under that first line center header. As does Kopitar IMO.

Yeah, the thing is my video game playing days ended when I grew out of our Atari 2600 in 1985.

My boys have an X-box 360...but I think they are more into the shoot 'em up games more than anything else.
