I answered that question in my message. Keep him out of the way in a spot where he can help out in scoring every once in a while and not do too much damage when he's not scoring. I don't think anybody would be interested in trading for him in his current state with the kind of cap hit he brings and with the cap going down next season.

That does seem to be the likely conclusion...playoff teams are going to salivate every time that line comes out.

Okay lets play business person first:

He doesn't fit on any of the lines either because he's too slow, not a checker, or doesn't do any type of sustained forecheck in the offensive zone and also takes some of the shortest shifts it seems on the team. He is also a left handed shot (yet another reason he isn't on the top line anymore because Koivu and Parise are both left handed shots).

Do you bench a 7.5M player? I don't think you can, nor should. However...the 3rd line is a -30 combined according to Russo. That is a horrible stat right now, and I don't care for the excuse it's because they are doing a lot of defensive zone faceoffs. So something has to be done. If he is that big of a team player as so many are saying, then let him sit out a game or 2 and see if there can be a difference in it. Maybe scratching him wakes up his game/takes the pressure off of him and/or wakes up the other two nitwits on the line to start pushing deeper for their strides they had in years past.

Now the fan position:

If anyone truly cares about him as a player, they would have the realization that he should be on another team that can use his talents on the top lines as he so desperately needs to be on. Detroit is a great option for the guy come next season...especially if Dats truly does go to the KHL as the rumors are mulling over.

Do I want him off the team? Honestly, I don't know. I see incredible talent going to waste right now on part of both Heatley and whoever would be called up to fill that gap on the 3rd line.

He'll go well before the Wild pick, and I don't think they'll be looking to trade prospects to move up.

Totally agree, but I really think this is a guy to trade up for!

Tough, stay at home defensemen, who is starting to get some offensive skill too!

EXACTLY what our 2nd pair needs.

Imagine 3 years from now.

Wild slipped to fourth in projected points. With GAA and PK dropping, they are average to above average in nearly everything, not great at anything.

The last five games, Wild have averaged:

GFA 3.80
GAA 3.80

Previous 8 games they averaged:

GFA 3.34
GAA 1.88

Playing too loose. Giving up too many chances and goals.

Do you think that is because we are forcing more offensive chances that it leaves the defense in a weakspot?

Anyone else agree that the booing of Wild players and "SHOOT" screaming by fans is getting a little ridiculous? Are fans not sophisticated enough to understand that in order to get a shot on the PP, you have to move the puck around to keep the defense moving so you can get an opening? Otherwise you are just asking for a block shot and an odd-man rush the otherway ala Clayton Stoner last week.

I always though the Minnesota hockey fans were smarter than this.

I don't agree with fans yelling for the players to shoot.

The players do need to learn to shoot with that said.

We only got lucky with that period of pp goals. Our pp has always been stagnant and slow, with unimaginitive passing and puck control.

But you would also agree that you just don't shoot for the sake of shooting, right?...I mean, there has to be a shot available before you pull the trigger. That's why they swing the puck around in the first place, they need to get the defense and the goalie to move...they're not passing for the fun of it.

They're not passing well though. No, never shoot for the sake of shooting, but our guys look for that perfect shot, and that's just not happening, nor has it been. Hell, even if they would shoot wide sometimes and have our guy down low while two of the other forwards collapsed on the crease area, that could open up chances and create havok.

Watching our pp is like watching the special ed version of Vancouver. We're too damend slow and there's no urgency or creativity. The d almost always has time to just get in front of the guy with the puck, and in the case with the Blues, run him. And since we do have a guy positioned poorly just hanging out in front of the goalie, the d and our pp unit are man to man, so we don't even have the advantage of numbers.

Last night the Blues were taking the guys that could even have the puck passed to them, before the puck was passed to them. This is a poor setup for a pp, especially against an aggressive, well positioned, and well coached team.

Agree with both of you. Our transition and breakouts aren't good this last week, which means less puck possession, more turnovers, more goals against. I also see the Wild getting a chance which immediately gets corraled by the other team and taken the other way. Not good.

No, I'm saying the same thing.

It's one thing to take a stupid point shot into shins like Stoner did...another entirely to pass up an open shooting lane in favor of trying to pass through three defensemen to a guy at the backdoor. Very, very, very low percentage play there.

I can only remember one year where the Wild had competent point shooters...the year with MAB and Zidlicky on the PP point. Otherwise we've always watched guys passing up shots to pass the puck around the perimeter.

If Wild don't make a move, this could be the kind of thing that sinks the team. After Koivu and Cullen, there's a pretty steep dropoff in talent in the middle, including our guys in Houston.

Ugh, i got a sinking feeling in my stomach right now (probably unfounded).

I suppose we could trade for clowe and then roll a clowe-granlund/butch-seto line. Completely different dynamic though and echos failied experiments from earlier this year.
