The Oilers pick as of now isn't top 5 and if they add the Schenns to the lineup and only lose Gagner off the roster, that increases the chances that the 1st rounder becomes less valuable. Also, B. Schenn is the ideal fit at #2C behing Giroux, i don't see why they need Gagner plus Philly needs D help now, giving up L. Schenn for a 1st rounder does nothing for them.
I can see why Flyers fans think that the deal is brutal.

Also, the Flyers aren't dealing Couturier. They wouldn't include him as a centerpiece for Weber so i highly doubt that they would be interested in dealing him to the Oilers for anything less than the players that Oiler fans for the most part deem as untouchable. It's a total pipedream although Holmgren is unpredictable so who knows.

About a week before the draft I had a dream that the Oil won the cup with Vasilevski in net. Woke up and told my friend I was positive they'd draft him for that reason. Felt pretty stupid draft day.

Make no mistake, BMcGrattan will be in Calgary not the A. Team feels it needs to be tougher and harder to play against.#hartleyhockey

why is everybody talking about a philly trade all of a sudden? is it just because they are struggling and have some size in their top-6 that we would covet?

I doubt it's Hartnell The announcers were showing how Giroux is way more productive with Hartnell in the lineup

One of our young players laying crumpled on the ice is a hefty price to pay for a PP.

3 Oilers scouts were at the Philly/Caps game yesterday including MacT and Lowe and possibly Tambo as well IIRC.

It's been reported that we were scouting their team.

Edit: I see someone beat me to the punch. I wonder if they were looking at Washington and not Philly though?

I hope you are right... when last McGrattan was with the Flames - and the Oilers had no answer to him - I remember him bullying the entire team, including the goaltender. The Oilers looked and acted like an intimidated bunch, especially after the whistle. As I recall, they looked quite helpless. I wil qualify that I am remembering one game in particular.

There is a difference between the organizations; Calgary seems willing to use a goon/enforcer as a goon/enforcer (at least they were when they had McGrattan), whereas - as of late - the Oil seem to only use them as a counter to other teams. More than a deterrent a guy like McGrattan has 'pre-emptive' uses... and I am betting Calgary will use him as such.

I'd be more worried about someone on this team trying to fight McGratton. I don't think he'll do much damage to ours kids. It's actually a horrible move to have McGratton on the ice against Hall-RNH-Eberle.

To think that this powerplay is fifth in the league with 2 of our best forwards seriously slumping. That's a crazy turn around from where we once were.

Solid post, they will use him to intimidate, we use our guys to try to counter the intimidation. That said no one in our system has a hope in hell against him in a fight.

With Lowe being out there you have to wonder if it is a bigger deal... I'm not saying Ovechkin but hey if any team has the pieces it is Edmonton... but Mike Green seems more likely to me... hometown boy... RHD... has a big contract but we can absorb it...

Whitney and 2013 1st... I'd consider it... we have seen what Green can do in a run and gun offense... not that we use one... but he is a unique weapon... whoever we draft this year does not help us as much or as soon as Green would and he would be still be young when his contact expired...
