Hellebuyck makes easy adjustment to NCAA hockey

Not many goalies have a lot of success during their freshman season in Hockey East, but UMass Lowell’s Connor Hellebuyck has dominated college hockey so far this season.

The Commerce, MI native has only played 12 games so far for the Riverhawks as Hellebuyck has split time with junior Doug Carr, but his play has been quite impressive during that 12-game span. Hellebuyck is 11-1-0 with a 1.57 goals against average, .940 save percentage, and has three shutouts.

Good on him. I am very encouraged by the strides that he and Kasdorf have made this year.

Yeah, both Kasdorf and Hellebuyck have won multiple rookie of the week honours in their respective NCAA divisions this year.

I really liked his interview at the prospect camp. Hellebuyck seemed very calm and composed considering that it was probably the first big press event he'd ever done; there were like 10 cameras there that day. He is clearly an intelligent kid with a good grasp of the amount of work he is facing.

Didn't mention it in the article because I decided to use more cautious words "time split" with Doug Carr, but Hellebuyck has pretty much stolen the starting job. He's started the last 5 games, and he just won Hockey East monthly honors.
