Leafs/Canadiens

To Toronto: Tomas Kaberle
To Montreal: Mike Komisarek

Both these guys seem to have been better when they played on the other team and both are deemed to be contract anchors to their respective clubs so why not just swap them?

This thread has actually been done before. I'd take it for the Habs on the following bases: a) Habs already have a spare PMD in Weber, so better to have a spare physical D with him in Komi over Kaberle, and b) the buyout is slightly cheaper on Komisarek.

All that said, I would dare to hope for both sides that they would ultimately find a taker for their surplus d-man which actually returns them something, even a 7th round pick, rather than just swapping buyout $$$-figures.

I don't see a reason for Toronto to do this. No need for a PMD with Gardiner, Franson, Liles, etc Better to just buy out Komi at the end of the season.

Desharnais was awesome tonight, how many play did he intercept in neutral zone..

I can't understand why some habs fan are ready to trade him for a bag of puck.

To be fair that was his best game of the season, he's heating up, also it's only his second full season with us so he might be the slow starter type and we wouldn't know.

I made a post a few weeks ago where i wanted to trade cole, if desharnais got a slow start it was only because of him.

Edit : And the injury to paccio didn't help also

I actually think that is a fair offer for both sides. I would do it only because we have Weber sitting in the press box.

He has been loosing the puck, battles and falling around. He wasn't realy good this season, Cole didn't help for sure.

and then trade carter for couturier and Voracek

I have no problem with Kaberle
he has coping well with everything and is a premiere replacement if a D man goes down
Great insurance policy right now

Glad to see him get some ice time

for his sake maybe someone will pick him up

I'd prefer Kaberle.

But, both will likely be bought out in the summer. I would rather buyout Komisarek than have to do it to Kaberle. It will be an awesome day when the Leafs get to buyout Komisarek and have no cap hit afterwards. That day would suck if it was Kaberle, he was a great Leaf.

Neither team does this, but Toronto does it "less"

I think you got lost and walked through the wrong door. It's about Komi & Kaby

Komi is not half bad in RCs defensive system - unfortunately he's still really low on our D-Depth charts. He's good to have as an injury fillin if/when required.

Kaberle would not have any place on this team - we already have a superior Liles sitting in the press box making similar $$$

kaberle is 100% garbage now.
There really isn't room for Komie or Kaberle on our roster.
I'd rather hang onto Komie and let his contract expire.

Leafs will take 1 remaining year vs. 2 years.

Leafs will take a smaller buyout.

Leafs may also end up trading Komisarek in the off-season and retain some of his salary (ala the Lombardi trade). Komi has a cap hit of 4.5 next year but his actual salary is only 3.5. If the Leafs take another million to million in a half a lot of payroll teams could be interested in him for a pick next season.
