Band/Group/Artist You Are Most Excited to Hear From in the Future

It doesn't necessarily have to be a new band/artist, just someone you're really looking forward to seeing what they do in the future.

For me, it's Ought. They sound kind of like a mix of Talking Heads/Pavement/Modest Mouse, and I thought this was the song of the year:

Mary Halvorson. She's a young jazz guitarist from Boston. Not too many female jazz guitarists out there for starters. As with most avant garde players, there is a lot of hit-and-miss (she had a trio project that I couldn't listen to), but some of her quintet stuff really intrigues me.

I pay scant attention to rock these days, but there is a Montreal band name Suuns who I hope puts out another album soon. Don't know enough about what's going on to know if they are already on the map or totally obscure. In terms of established artists, anything new by Steven Wilson is fine with me. Same for Vieux Farka Toure from Mali, who seems to be honouring traditional African guitar at the same time that he is expanding its modern possibilities. Hope he continues to brilliantly collaborate with Israeli keyboard player Idan Raichel.

Imagine Dragons

First album was pure gold and can't wait for their next album. All the stuff they have released between have been awesome so far.

Mike Edwards of Jesus Jones just mentioned a couple weeks ago before the band started a brief Australian tour that he's been working on new material, so the band might put out new music for the first time in 11 years...got me rather excited for that

That's terrific news. Great that Doherty finally got clean, he's such a talented singer.

The Avalanches have been working on their 2nd album since 2005, so I've been waiting for that for a bit.

a new The Radio Dept. album would be nice as well.

Crosses or Deftones. Anything Chino Moreno is involved with.

I'll believe it when I see it. Or hear it.

Chrvches are in the studio, so goes without saying for me on that one.

March 3 had a chance to be a pretty good day. Brandi Carlile, Modest Mouse, Purity Ring.

Besides Beherit, I'm interested in how Stabat Mater progresses. A member from Finland and in Deathspell Omega released his first album (s/t) in 2009. He had many good riffs that seemed to be crafted with confidence. I could see him honing a unique sound for this project and with his own brand of funeral doom.
