Don't the Caps already have a ton of this in their roster? How about swinging for the fences or taking a risk George?

Do not like this. Why was Volpatti on waivers at all...? Granted, he's not exactly irreplaceable and at least he was claimed by a team I don't hate, but hrmph.

Rabble!

The only thing ridiculous about it is he can punch you in the face and kick you in the sack at the same time.

Seems odd that Vancouver let him go. BC Boy, decent fringe roster player who played with a lot of energy and was one of the best fighters on the roster.

Young British Columbian, built like a brick wall (only 6'0 though). Plays with heart, skates pretty fast, forechecks hard, hits everything in sight, and is a good fighter although he has a tendency to fight players half a foot taller than him (usually loses those). Good looking guy too (no homo).

I liked Volpatti, and I certainly liked him on the team over Ebbett. He just was a smart 4th liner, and he knew his role, and was good at it (plus he's a BC native).

I guess Weise is better though, and younger.

Hopefully Pinnizotto is healthy soon.

:'(

What the **** was the reasoning behind this.

God that punching bag Weise (The new Aaron Rome in AV's books) gets unlimited time in any role except 1st line and PP time with the twins, and he does nothing, yet this guy plays no time at all really, and is one of our most noitcable players.

I wish AV had played him, then no chance MG would have waived him, and the fact we lost him to bring up Ebbett is even more infuriating.

Ok, trade him back please?

Volpatti for a 7th? could also throw in Ebbett as a final offer?

7th and Ebbett for Volpatti, Deal?

Really liked him in vc, he is an energy guy, lays big hits at times, and will fight, he maybe slightly insane, not huge but will fight bigger guys even if hes outmatched.

If he fights someone his size they are in for a rough fight.

As for hockey skill about what you expect from a 4th liner, hes looking to fight or hit more then hes looking to play the puck.

Prototypical 4th liner that won't be a liability defensively.

Understand -- he's willing throw them. He's not that great at it.

He's got a decent forecheck due to his speed and makes a solid hit a game.

In short, I would have rather he was not taken away from the 'Nucks.

Apparently the Oil put in a claim, he didn't fall to them though

Source confirms Oilers were one of several teams who had a claim in on Volpatti. Caps lower in standings, they got him.

Saw him play with the Manitoba Moose back when Winnipeg had an AHL team. Thought he was a waste of a roster spot and still do. Don't see how he played 54 games with the Canucks... But what do I know? It seems that there was more than one team who wanted to claim him.

When several GM's put a claim in on a player you know you shouldn't be giving him away.

And the journey of the most overrated GM in history continues, great job Gillis.

**** good pick up

I was in the Volpatti>Weise camp because he is the perfect fourth liner, hits fights, can play defense and is fast. Good pick up Washington, glad he wasnt picked up in division. He has no upside but im fine with that, many see upside with Weise so that's why he was picked.

Now our fighters are Weise and Kassian, so meh.

tho i dont like waiving volpatti for the same reasons many nucks fans have mentioned (hitting toughness etc.), the canucks aren't far from getting pinnizotto back. He was one of the players gillis picked up from the caps i believe who does everything the exact same as volpatti, but more than likely better, quicker, etc. (my best guess and most optimistic view is he turns into a jannik hansen 2.0). He has been injury plagued since joining the canucks so never got the chance to come to the bigs (much like volpatti).

As for those saying "WTF!!! why not ebbett or weise!?!?!?!", apparently you don't realize that both weise and ebbett are capable of playing the PK (which some posters have mentioned). Aside from that benefit, ebbett is a natural centerman and we need center depth a hell of a lot more than wing depth. center depth is not easy to find/pickup on the cheap like ebbett.

Ebbett is ****

I hardly even consider him centre depth because he is that bad

The fact that he has PK is an absolute joke

Burrows, Raymond, Hansen, Higgins, Lapierre, Weise, Schroeder are all better pk options

Ebbett is not capable of playing the pk, we are laughing about this on our board, hes awful defensively, av seems to think he can play there though.

He is a an undersized center thats about it, one that could not fill that role at the beginning of the season he is now being asked to fill again.

Would not say he is not great at it, hes pretty good if you ask me when he fights someone his size. When he steps up weight classes naturally he struggles. Which he did often.

Not sure why there were so many teams interested in Volpatti. Players like him are a dime a dozen around the league and often available on waivers weekly.

I liked Volpatti but some Canucks fans are acting like we waived a Sedin or something. The timing was a little odd but he had been a healthy scratch lately and it's unlikely he would have been re-signed at the end of the season. Hope he does well in Washington.
