He's going to get 20-24 SERIOUS offers. Anyone claiming that he's going to one place or another because "team x has the cap space and wants him" is delusional.
He'll basically get to take his pick.
Exactly right. So it just comes down to what place he prefers...what ELSE that organization can offer him.
perry clan has relatives in west end of ottawa. They are sens season ticket holders.
perry's parents live in peterborough, half-way between ottawa and toronto.
perry summers in both london (west of toronto) and peterborough.
perry did indeed grow up a habs fan.
just some facts I remember from his ASG interviews in ottawa last year.
Anaheim won't trade him, they're going for the Cup run.
Conversely - the Ducks are playing great right now without getting a ton of production from Perry. If they could move him for a lesser replacement + blue-chip asset, they might do it.
It's really tough to lose that type of asset for no return.
Pittsburgh has a ton of cap space and just offered Parise a huge deal this past summer. Perry is exactly the player the Penguins have been looking for for the past 5 years.
The Pens offered Parise a huge deal before the cap went down by $6M+ for next year.
Maybe the Pens could fit him in under the cap, but I'd be surprised. I also think that the Pens with their centers would be better off adding two "quality" wingers at $3.75M each rather than one "elite" winger at $7.5M, but that's just me
if Perry isn't resigning here. trade him. we can't afford to lose him for nothing
Why not? Teams lose players all the time. If you think you have a shot at the Cup, you have to take it.
Look at it this way, if Anaheim is sitting 2nd in the West, and then trades away one of its top players, what do you think that says to Getzlaf? Do you think he really wants to re-sign if Anaheim isn't willing to go all in to win the Cup? Would any other top free agents want to sign?

If they trade Perry it will be because he doesn't want to resign before he becomes a free agent. Getzlaf will understand and as captain has an opportunity to do the right thing for the franchise, which is to resign and close the door on the speculation.
I think they're capable of being a lot more independent than people seem to think.

It's debatable.
Dupuis Crosby Perry
Kunitz Malkin Neal
Pretty solid top 6. Plus, Bennett hopefully will be able to take Kunitz's spot in that line-up if he can not be resigned at the end of his contract.
The Pens could have a hard time with cap space, however, we have some money that could be moved if needed from our blueline. We have a log jam right now with young defensemen who are ready, so an older vet may be movable. All I know is that if there is a way to make it work, Jason Botterill will find it......He is really good at cap management.
