Pretty mucy no chance he signs in CHI unless the Hawks makes some other big trades where they move out a core player due to lack of cap space.

And why would the hawks mess with what they have going right now

Exactly right. So it just comes down to what place he prefers...what ELSE that organization can offer him.

As a Habs fan, I'd love for a high profile UFA to sign with us, but I just don't see Perry becoming a Hab. Hope I'm wrong though.

perry clan has relatives in west end of ottawa. They are sens season ticket holders.
perry's parents live in peterborough, half-way between ottawa and toronto.
perry summers in both london (west of toronto) and peterborough.
perry did indeed grow up a habs fan.

just some facts I remember from his ASG interviews in ottawa last year.

Conversely - the Ducks are playing great right now without getting a ton of production from Perry. If they could move him for a lesser replacement + blue-chip asset, they might do it.

It's really tough to lose that type of asset for no return.

Pay as much as you want for him at the trade deadline but he will only be a rental. Perry is signing with the Habs next season!

I reckon that Habs could offer something like 8mil/year. Could totally see a Price/Galchenyuk/Subban/Perry/Pacioretty core.

Habs would probably have to offer 1st+ our 2 2nd and possibly eller, assuming he resigns here.

The Pens offered Parise a huge deal before the cap went down by $6M+ for next year.

Maybe the Pens could fit him in under the cap, but I'd be surprised. I also think that the Pens with their centers would be better off adding two "quality" wingers at $3.75M each rather than one "elite" winger at $7.5M, but that's just me

Gives the Ducks a fresh start with Kessel, JVR, Ryan
Of course you would, you're getting the two best players in the deal

Just please do not sign with Detroit, Rangers or Boston or the like.

It would be nice for a change if some other teams could improve via UFA.

That would be a good start. I can see a lot of teams beating that offer.

I'm hoping he stays in Anaheim personally.

Why not? Teams lose players all the time. If you think you have a shot at the Cup, you have to take it.

Look at it this way, if Anaheim is sitting 2nd in the West, and then trades away one of its top players, what do you think that says to Getzlaf? Do you think he really wants to re-sign if Anaheim isn't willing to go all in to win the Cup? Would any other top free agents want to sign?

If Perry just walks I really feel bad for the things that have happened to the ducks in recent memory.

Schultz situation would play second fiddle.

The thing is, I'm sure Perry is chirping in Getzlaf's ear too.

"Come on Ryan, look at what Parise/Suter dual got! Lets consider retirement contracts together!"

If they trade Perry it will be because he doesn't want to resign before he becomes a free agent. Getzlaf will understand and as captain has an opportunity to do the right thing for the franchise, which is to resign and close the door on the speculation.

I think they're capable of being a lot more independent than people seem to think.

Yes. Can anyone else please answer this? Nothing on McKenzie's twitter, which I would think he would post about this on there if it were true.

They are only 27. 7 year contracts are not retirement contracts.

It's debatable.

Dupuis Crosby Perry
Kunitz Malkin Neal

Pretty solid top 6. Plus, Bennett hopefully will be able to take Kunitz's spot in that line-up if he can not be resigned at the end of his contract.

The Pens could have a hard time with cap space, however, we have some money that could be moved if needed from our blueline. We have a log jam right now with young defensemen who are ready, so an older vet may be movable. All I know is that if there is a way to make it work, Jason Botterill will find it......He is really good at cap management.
