PA was against the 16 and 14 split. What did Gary give Fehr? The NHL really wanted 16 and 14.

Just speculation, but I believe the next two cities will be Seattle and Kansas City.

Kansas City would be in the 'central' conference. Seattle would be in the 'pacific' conference.

And that would even it up.

Kansas City has an arena waiting for a team.

Seattle seems adamant about getting an NHL and NBA team.

Could this happen?
  • Phoenix moves to Seattle
  • Quebec + Hamilton are 2 new teams both placed in the East
  • Detroit & Columbus then both go back west

??? Another new team in the West ??? (with mentioned possible locations being Milwaukee, Kansas City, Portland, Houston, Regina, Anchorage and Las Vegas) seems unrealistic at the time IMO

But having 2 teams jump back & forth like this is certainly not favorable either
I dunno...

BEFORE EXPANSION

East Conference

Central Division
Boston Bruins
Buffalo Sabres
Detroit Red Wings
Florida Panthers
Montreal Canadiens
Ottawa Senators
Tampa Bay Lightning
Toronto Maple Leafs

Atlantic Division
Carolina Hurricanes
Columbus Blue Jackets
New Jersey Devils
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Philadelphia Flyers
Pittsburgh Penguins
Washington Capitals

West Conference

Midwest
Chicago Blackhawks
Colorado Avalanche
Dallas Stars
Minnesota Wild
Nashville Predators
St. Louis Blues
Winnipeg Jets

Pacific
Anaheim Ducks
Calgary Flames
Edmonton Oilers
Los Angeles Kings
Phoenix Coyotes
San Jose Sharks
Vancouver Canucks

AFTER EXPANSION

East Conference

Atlantic Division
Brooklyn Islanders
Carolina Hurricanes
Florida Panthers
New Jersey Devils
New York Rangers
Philadelphia Flyers
Pittsburgh Penguins
Washington Capitals

Central Division
Boston Bruins
Buffalo Sabres
Hamilton Blackberries
Montreal Canadiens
Ottawa Senators
Quebec Metis
Toronto Maple Leafs
Tampa Bay Lightning

West Conference

Midwest
Chicago Blackhawks
Columbus Blue Jackets
Dallas Stars
Detroit Red Wings
Minnesota Wild
Nashville Predators
St. Louis Blues
Winnipeg Jets

Pacific
Anaheim Ducks
Calgary Flames
Colorado Avalanche
Edmonton Oilers
Los Angeles Kings
Seattle Salmon
San Jose Sharks
Vancouver Canucks

Tampa is the odd man out here somehow though...
Maybe Winnipeg goes out West and Colorado stays in the Midwest?
Would make for a total of 9 Canadian teams - all put in 2 divisions...
Keeps the Colorado - Detroit rivalry too...

Don't think they'll split up Florida and Tampa

I agree
But it gets messy any way you do it though
Moving Boston to the Atlantic & keeping Tampa & Florida together in the Central Division is of course an option
Not a good one for the Atlantic teams though

I think geographically Boston makes the most sense, but that makes the Atlantic pretty damn strong (If things are relatively the same when the changes happen).

Kansas City: Sprint Center

http://www.google.com/search?q=sprin...w=1007&bih=491

They've hosted pre season games. They had pre season games lined up for this season that were cancelled due to the lockout.

NHL history is there, the Scouts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City_Scouts

Seattle is very serious about getting an NHL club and an NBA club.

Ever forward in this world.

Unfortunately who will miss it the most? The old timers. New fans are more important.

Jay Feaster and Greg Sherman royally screwed up the Ryan O'Reilly situation.

If the Flames successfully signed Ryan O'Reilly, they would have had to pass him through waivers first, because he played in the KHL this season without an NHL contract. That means sending conpensation picks to Colorado for signing their RFA, then most definitely losing him on waivers to a team like Columbus.

If Sherman didn't have his head up his butt, he would have sent a memo out to every team in the league letting them know they would have to pass O'Reilly through waivers if they poached him. Then he wouldn't have had to match a ridiculous deal.

Such an unbelievable oversight. I never thought I would see anything that topped the "Oops, I forgot to fax the qualifying offers!" gaff from Tallon, but this is 10x worse. I think Feaster's play was potentially more catastrophic, but Sherman should have known he had this card to play. Wow. Just wow.

One of the most hilarious things I've ever seen from the Wigs running behind the scenes.

Rick DiPietro wasn't serious about the suicide comments.

It's obvious to me he tried to rationalize his situation as a depressive at the very least, maybe to gain some sympathy.

No one says jokingly to media "I wanted to drive my car off the road" straightface and not mean it.

So often on these forums, certain segments of the fanbase like to rely on the tried and true rationale of "what the hell do you know? These guys are professionals. They obviously know far more than you do." Blah blah blah.

This O'Relly/waivers situation is just yet another piece of evidence that proves that some of the people who are fortunate enough to hold jobs that we all dream about having are utterly incompetent.

If I was Jay Feaster, I would immediately fire who ever was responsible on the Flames' staff for informing him of all of the nuances of the CBA. If I was Jay Feaster's boss, Jay Feaster would be fired today. Ditto for Greg Sherman. Then again, Jay Feaster should have been fired long before this happened, because Jay Feaster has done a horrible job running that team, mandate from the owners to not rebuild or not.

As a general manager of a major professional sports team, how could you possibly even dream of making a single transaction unless you knew every nook and cranny of the rules and regulations that govern your ability to make transactions?

Simply mystifying.

No wonder Glen Sather never got fired . . .

Pretty dumbfounding, huh Sting? I admit I didn't catch the loophole either but then again it's not what I'm paid to do. I'd love to be the fly on the wall in Calgary's front office when they had their post-mortem conference call.

That's really unacceptable.

Wow.

I would be angry if I was a fan of either team. Though, to be fair, both fanbases probably are angry with their management anyway.

Detroit is thrilled to be back in the Eastern Conference--they have been pushing for to move for years. They were the only team in the western conference on Eastern time--every away game was in a different time zone.
