If COL wins tonight vs CGY = Take the picks
If COL loses tonight vs CGY = Keep him

There goes any hope for a rebuild in Calgary.

This signing mos likely means Calgsry is going to keep Iggy and Kipper this year, which is a shame, because if this signing blows up in Calgarys face (and it has a chance to) that means Iggy and Kippers value once again goes down next year (providing Iggy resigns), which means a weaker rebuild if Calgary chooses to finally do so.

Can't they skip the compensation if they agree to a trade?

I'd be shocked if Colorado matches.

Why do people think this will be a lottery pick? calgary is 3 points out without O'Reilly, you have to think having a bonafide top 6 forward can only help them, no?

It's risky for sure, but suggesting this pick ends up being in the top 3 is pretty unlikely. It's currently 8th overall, O'Reilly improves their team. At worst it's 10-14th.

I agree. ROR isn't going to push them into the playoffs. He's going to be rusty as hell for the first 10 games, and by then the season is half over.

Very ballsy move by Calgary. If the Avs don't match, you'd better hope you aren't giving up a Seguin or Hamilton. You'll never hear the end of it.

I would be surprised as well. This is basically first line money, and ROR has not proven to be a first-line player.

Imagine Calgary missing the playoffs and winning the lottery for the #1 pick (which goes to the Avs) and Colorado ends up with #3/4.

Jones/Mackinnon + Drouin/Barkov

calgary has 3 games before the avs have to decide, take the full 7, and let him walk. he's been doing nothing and hasn't been playing, the flames are so dumb, this kid will leave them in 2 years, and they'll basically get 100 games out of him. calgary continues to take shortcuts

If the Avs don't match and they and up with a 7-15 pick they lose this imho, i'd rather have a proven 50pts young player than a 7-15 pick.

Except that this is the deepest draft in recent memory and there's a strong possibility that Calgary's first could end up being a top-ten pick.

I agree. I think it would be really bad for Colorado and set them back.

And Calgary, as usual, can't bite the bullet and rebuild. They'll end up just outside the playoffs again.

It's bad for both teams.

This is an easy one for Colorado.

Take the picks but wait until the absolute last moment and leave calgary hanging so that they have a week to tank. That way they don't get the shot in the arm from the new guy for a while so that they have some time to suck.If Calgary goes on a run you can always match.

If Calgary has had an easy time of anything, it's been getting players to sign extensions. The last one they really couldn't get back was Brad Stuart.

Given a year to negotiate, no way Feaster wouldn't give him an extension as soon as he could.

Nope. Well they can do an under table deal, but not as a part of this offersheet. It will be either a match or 1st + 3rd.
