The whole not being able to trade him next season (before the deadline) because of the 365 rule is BS considering the lockout.

How often do teams outside the top 5 actually win it though? The Devils did last year and it was a big deal, BECAUSE IT HARDLY HAPPENS.

(And yes, odds are the same with the only difference is that the team winning can move all the way up into 1st over all instead of jumping 5 spots.)

Honestly, if we don't match. Calgary is going have a hell of time trying to compete in 2 years. They are old and don't have much in the system and no picks to rebuild.

Yes I definitely still see it as possible. Right now Buffalo, Washington, Colorado, Edmonton, and the NYI are all behind CGY and IMO are better then CGY.

Depending on how long it takes ROR to get back into the lineup with CGY, if he misses another 10 games say, the season would be fairly close to over(28 games played for CGY, only 20 left) and I could see them being 28th or 29th in the league by then. Would be hard for them to dig out of that hole and get out of the bottom 5.

BUT, The Flames could also just as easily continue in the mediocrity that they're playing to right now, and when they get ROR be 21st in the league, and end up finishing like 18th or 19th and then the pick isn't as good.

Its a huge risk, that could either pay off great for us or not. Similar to the BOS/Kessel situation.

One thing for sure though, tonights game against CGY just became a true MUST WIN game no matter what.

This is what will happen. Kipper is coming back off injury and prolly play out of his mind. besides the top 10 is this draft any good around the 15th-20th range? I dont think so. Makes the game tonight very interesting.

I'd tend to agree with this. We easily have the money and cap space to match this deal and deal with 2 more years of overpaying through QOs. In terms of just hockey value, ROR is worth more than a mid 1st and a third. If the Avs are dedicated to this rebuild, I think they should match. But then it's not my millions of dollars.

I'd say about 80% chance the Avs take the picks, because dollars are the only thing Avs management cares about, and they'd rather let a player go than overpay him.

I think it is the old way, 14th winning lottery meant they move up 5 spots to 9. But new form, I think it is 14th winning lottery means 1st overall. That's what the change is IIRC

Again. They just did that. These are the guys that they brought in. They aren't going to be bringing in better people. Kroenke doesn't even know who ROR is. He isn't going to fire Lacroix.

Wow...I think the AVs should match. See how things work out relationship wise and on-ice. He's more valuable than a 1st and a 3rd so after one calendar year you can always trade him for an organizational need if there is bad ju-ju. If things work out great, well...he could potentially be worth 6.5 large.

Just don't let him walk for a low 1st and a 3rd to a divisional/conference foe. We'll be fighting Calgary for a playoff spot next year no matter what...wildcards are determined by conference standings not divisional.

If we match this we are possibly going to heading out of the top 10 draft range just some thought.

Officialy it will be a trade for whatever compinsation we get from the Flames. The Gratton offer sheet Tampa traded the four picks they got for Renberg and Dykhuis.

They will wait until the last minute to decide, if Landeskog & Stastny can't gain any chemistry by then. That will have to Factor into how valuable Factor is to us.

Landeskog may have made O'Reilly better, but we can't discount O'Reilly making Landeskog better as well.

At this point with how Stastny has played, i'll take O'Reilly on Stastny's contract ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Holy ****. Just saw this news. There's no way the Avs match this amount. None. Flames should be in the top 10 this year so this isn't so bad either.

Well I don't know, some guy in the main trade forums posted that link and said every team had a 7% chance, and from the wording of that it makes sense.

But at the same time, I remember reading something about the odds being the same as last year so I dunno you're probably right, I was just posting what I read over there here.

I hope we match so I can simply go to a game and jeer at him 20-50 times rather than just 2-4 times a year.
