Hard for me to defend the Buds, but no way Toronto gives up that much.

I know Perry is a god among men (apparently) in the NHL but that seems like a super high price to pay, especially if you include Kessel.

If there is a deal with the Ducks to be made for Perry and the Leafs did offer a swap for Kessel, the Leafs wouldn't have to offer that much more.

Your smoking the good stuff today if you think Toronto gives that up for perry. Think kessel and colborne and maybe a 2nd in 2014 only if perry negotiates an extension prior to coming over like kessel did with boston.

Perry is great.

If both him and Kessel were on long deals the value seems fair.

But the fact that he is a rental and we are moving some solid assets. seems quite crazy.

If the leafs think they can sign him in the offseason and it would be best for the team to get him now. a Kessel for Perry swap shouldn't be ridiculously bad on both ends. We all realize that Perry is superior to Kessel, but if Anaheim doesn't want to see him walk at the end of the year; and also still want to compete in the West.....it's a sideways move that likely works out in the end. (sure you could jack the value through the roof, picks + prospects etc at the deadline - but the fact is the ducks are competing, doubt they sell him off for futures)

if perry flat out tells the ducks that he will not resign with them then i think kessel straight up is fair. perry> kessel but i find it hard to imagine the ducks getting a better singular or package of players coming back then kessel. i would much rather have the downgrade from perry to kessel then end up with a nash type return.

the conditional first is mental because what gm would trade their best players for a rental. if kessel was in play for perry then an extension is part of the trade as well.

Leafs are in no state to be buying high priced rentals. Maybe one day, but not this one.

too much. Take out the 1st. Matter of fact, why are people trying to overcomplicate things as usual. Simple Perry-Kessel trade is fine (with Perry extension)

I'd love to have Perry with my habs but patience is our better friend, considering how the ducks are doing this season I'd be suprised if Perry doesn't stay with them until the end.

The only reason Perry leave annahein is if they don't have the money to keep him but he's not gonna be traded ( not with the season they have ).

Overpay by TO. Maybe if Perry wasn't on an expiring contract, although if that were the case, I doubt Anaheim would entertain that offer.

It blows my mind people would be willing to trade kessel+ for Perry. There's a couple options:

(1) Perry re-signs in Anaheim.
(2) Perry tells Anaheim he won't re-sign, wants to go to FA. Anaheim might decide to trade him for either:
(2.a) Futures
(2.b) Immediate help.

If Anaheim wants immediate help, they won't get a better offer than Phil Kessel. If Anaheim wants futures, they will get a better offer than giving up their own second, while getting Kulemin and a conditional 1st. Trying to put together some massive package including Phil Kessel and futures is both an over-payment and not enough at the same time.

That's the great thing; the Ducks want to hold on to him for the playoffs...the Habs, like 28 other teams out there, will just throw a big pile of money at Perry when he hits the market...the ball's in Perry court and he, apparently, wants to test the market and be close to home...good sign for the NorthEast teams!

Bergevin will wait this summer, he's gonna take a sit with Perry, drink some beer and speak as a player to another player about how the habs futur is going to be, Perry will find in bergevin a new friend, a gm with who he can have some pleasure, thats what gonna convince him to sign with the habs as a ufa.
