It's best not to try to comprehend some of the things said around here... Down that path lies madness.
I like the Lawson pickup as a first step towards correcting a busted LB corps. It's obviously not the last acquisition they are going to make in that area.
WR-another LB-CB are my desires for the rest of Free Agency.
Lawson is a good pick-up. Pettine is going to need guys who can excel in small areas of the game. The idea that we're going to pluck a 3 down guy who is elite in coverage, pressuring, and the run game is a pipe dream.
Because Ellerbe was available to be signed by everyone, was he not?
Bills sign OLB Manny Lawson (4 years, $12 million): B+ Grade
The Bills just came away with one of the best value signings in this young free agency period. What's happened to the NFL?
Lawson is a quality linebacker who can rush the passer and help stop the run effectively. He's a good fit for Buffalo's new hybrid defense, and the price is right at just $12 million over four seasons.
10.35 SIGNING! They’re coming thick and fast now as the agent for Manny Lawson reports that he has signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills. Lawson saw his role in Cincinnati diminished in his final year registering fewer than 400 snaps last season with the Bengals and recording his first negative overall grade for a single season in the five years we have been grading games here at PFF. Lawson brings versatility having played in both 3-4 and 4-3 fronts in Cincinnati and San Francisco and whilst he has never excelled in either system he is a solid contributor who graded well as a run defender his first season with the Bengals. It makes a lot of sense for a Bills team expected to be implementing a multiple fronts defense.
Letting BOTH Levitre and Rinehart get away is stupid. They either believe Colin Brown is going to be the answer, or they're gonna get a rookie in there (all of a sudden Warmack at #8 becomes a possibility, despite the fact that guards usually aren't good value that high)...they should have kept one of them.
