Why did we let Mottau Walk?

Mottau wasn't that bad and signed with Toronto at low cost... I'd rather have him as a 7th D than Johnson...

I don't think you really want Mottau right now! I didn't see him much with the Bruins. Didn't he only play a handful of games for you guys? He was bad with the Islanders last year, and he always bothered many Devils fans when he played for us. One year he was like +27 or something though. Go figure that out!

Not sure if he did this for you guys, but he always seemed to deflect the opponents shots into his own net.

I don't miss Mottau whatsoever. I thought Zanon was a great 3rd pairing guy though. I wouldn't pay him what Colorado is right now, but I would have loved to see him back if he took a bit less.

We had all this cap at the opening of the season. It was a mistake not to spend a large portion of it.

I still miss pouliot. Zanon would have been nice as well.

Pouliot is who in hindsight I wish we still had.

I like Johnson fine as a 7th D. The games he has played in he did pretty well. He is fine.

Sorry, Mottau isn`t missed at all. Initially I liked Zanon`s first 5-6 games, then he started playing, well, like crud. I have really liked Johnson in his few games played thus far.

I thought he looked pretty good in the games he played. Mottau didn't do much that I miss him.

Zanon's played 19 games and has 1 assist with a -10 rating, the worst on the team. Yikes.

there was very little of value available at the end of the lockout. And before the lockout the Bruins had absolutely no cap space.

And really Mottau? Do you actually believe he sits in a press box better than Johnson does?

I just don't get it Mottau is a very fringe NHL player, the type of guy you can have as a 7th or 8th defesnseman to fill in for injuries, but a guy who if he plays regularly it means your defense isn't good enough and you are going nowhere

Yea, Between Zanon and Hunwick, Av fans aren't too keen on former Bruins defensemen.

Really? We're 13-2-2, and you're complaining about a guy that's going to be a healthy scratch more often than not who played 2 games when Quaider was hurt and didn't hurt us at all?

Wow. We are a spoiled fan base.

#1- yes Boston is a spoiled fan base. If one of our teams doesn't win at least a round in the playoffs the the season is considered a failure so get used to that one.

#2- merely wondering so relax, mottau was a hometown guy and was responsible with the puck so I was just wondering why we needed Johnson over him. Just cause the B's are 13-2-2 doesn't mean we can't complain/ question things.

Mike friggin' Mottau?

Really?

We're 13-2-2 right now. They could have Carrot Top sitting in the press box as the #7 for all I care.

Complain, sure. But uh... I'd fix myself on something problematic to complain about, before random non-issues like Mike Mottau. I don't think bringing him back would have had any effect whatsoever on the Bruins' regular OR post-season.

But what do you think Mottau would have accomplished here more than Johnson?

I liked Mottau...good skater, played by the book...fine as 7th. But I also like what Johnson brings. Sure he has his flaws, but I do think over the long stretch Johnson brings more to the table than either Mottau or Zanon as long as he is paired with the right dude. I think he played a solid game while McQuaid was recovering. Johnson has a good shot and a bit of a mean streak too, which helps.

In reality, we have plenty of depth past Johnson. Some folks might get freaked out, but if we needed the shot blocking, heavy hitting Defense-first fill in...Garnet Exelby has been a rock for Providence this year. You know he would bring a veteran presence and play like a lion.

All of this is being discussed while Ference is back playing aggressive, smart hockey. So, I am a little surprised at the timing of this thread.

Man...for a little while though, Ference was playing like waiver-bait.

Yeah all Zanon could do anymore was block shots, and half the time he tried that he deflected it in his own goal.

I like Krug as 7th D, although he's rightfully in Providence and playing instead of sitting in the Pressbox.
