Not really a fan of trading for a 27 year old 1st liner.
I'd love it to as well.

The only question is whether or not it realistically can. The only way we get a top 6 pick in the draft at this point is if the rest of our season is on pace with what the Blue Jackets played like last year. I don't know if we're that bad.

It's a lot harder to find an automatic first liner after those top 6 picks, so we can't wait for years to get a top end pick. We have to either a) have a Karlsson like steal or b) one of Silfverberg/Zibanejad/Stone/Puempel/etc is going to have to be a 60+ point player within 2 or 3 years.

Yeah. And that's the scary part with existing prospects... they don't really seem the type to be legit 1st liners. Zibanejad is probably the closest/highest potential, but he's not a sure thing.

Even getting a ''lower end'' guy like Monahan, Lindholm or Barkov would be awesome

We should trade Lehner while his value is high, could prob get a third maybe even a late second for him now. Don't miss the boat BM

I'm fine with trading significant prospects and picks for a first liner, I just think it's a bad idea to do it before you've actually graduated a strong cohort of high draft picks from your farm system.

Usually it's hard to put together a package for a star player that doesn't compromise your prospect pool and/or roster depth. Take the Rangers for example: last year they had decent production from multiple forward lines, but now they're top heavy after dealing Anisimov and Dubinsky for Nash. They're also out Erixon and their 2014 1st, so their prospect pool took a hit and they'll miss out on a promising player in the next draft.

I've forgotten what Spezza even looks like. And he ain't gettin' any younger. After today's game against the Isles, I was wondering to myself if we could somehow swap Spezza for Tavares. That way, when our young team finally matures in a few years, our 1st line centre will still have some tread left on the tires.

Rather swap Spezza with Crosby, also don't think Anderson can keep it up, should swap with Lundqvist.

I heard this years draft is deep we should just trade him for any 1st rounder cause I am sure in the top 30 we can find a PPG career player, who wins face offs and giggles with the best of them.

Eh. I find that to be an odd statement. He's 27, not 34. He has at minumum 6 more solid years in him. Lots of guys are going strong well into their late 30's now.

I highly doubt age is a factor here for Murray. It would be the risk of gambling on a pending FA.

I would love to find any Sens fan that would be against this trade.

That being said, I think I'd have an even harder time trying to find a single Flames fan that would be for this trade.

Wonder if opinions would change if we switched Baertschi with Backlund.

Cam Ward got hurt in tonight's game.

Let's hypothetically say that Ward's injury is bad, and that they'd be looking for a goalie. Hypothetically.

Would we move Bishop for Jussi Jokinen and a "B Prospect" or draft pick?

Jokinen hasn't had a great season, but his minutes have been stolen by the super-hot Tlusty, Skinner &Semin trio of wingers. Jokinen is playing with trash players, on the Sens I think he'd be a 20+ goal guy again.

We'd be selling high, buying low.

You might have to toss in a prospect for them. Even then, I doubt they bite.

Yep. As a Sens fan, I would do that deal in a heartbeat. As a Flames fan, not a chance would I touch that trade offer. Bishop isn't a huge need for the Flames with Kiprusoff coming back soon and Ramo considered the goaltender of the near future.

Hell, I would do a straight trade for Victor Rask.

If we're trading Bishop or anyone it's not going to be for a stop-gap. If Carolina still wants to push for the playoffs and needs someone like Bishop they have to pay for him.

That said because they have Ward long term they are not ideal partners.
