My friend calls Marchand "Sperm" because of how he moves on the ice.

I knew there was another one, couldn't remember Lyrical's handle on here. One of them sent me a PM a while back because I was under the assumption the Habs monopoly on French players back in the day was the reason for all of their Cups. Very good article they sent me.

I would take that with a grain of salt. Yes, there was no such thing as a "French rule" for the habs. However, the leafs and habs owned and operated practically all the junior teams and leagues back in the day. I worked with 2 gentlemen that just retired and they were property of mtl, however, they never saw the inside of the forum......as you can imagine, they are Nordiques fans out of spite!!

That was pretty much the topic of the article they sent me. Main point of it was that they didn't land all of that talent they had solely because of that rule, which a lot of people assume is the case. Good stuff.

Any time you have hab/bruins being mentioned in the same article its going to get noticed by both. Was it premature to call out hab fans although the article was the first time we've seen the comparison between both players? Sure. If Gallagher actually gets results like marchand don't you think the comparison was bound to happen?

I mean, recently the rivalry has been quieted down due to humbling the habs, bruins success and canadiens not even making the playoffs.

I could look back and search the habs board when the habs were in a better position and find the bruins coming up all the time in conversation over there.

When there's no drama, fans will create drama. It keeps the rivalry alive when the product on the ice doesn't.

Edit:
You being my favorite hab fan almost made me lose my mind and forget to say this.

eff the habs, and whoever likes em

Maybe their ears are ringing from all of the talking that we do about them?

And you are creating good points as well. But we can't compare that topic to actually the ones some of us created in the past as it was brought in this thread. I mean, with everything that has happened in the past, it is pretty normal to see our obsession with Lucic and Chara. But it didn't happen overnight. It took quite some times before people keeps bringing in their conversation. Yet, Gallagher hasn't even had the time to piss Bruins fans off in here so we can't compare both. Yes, I do understand that the rivalry is so intense that we will be talking about players of each team. No problem with that. Just that, I don't see it for that particular topic.

Thanks. But I suggest, for the benefice of your fellow friends in here that you change "root" for "be glad for"....They might not be on your case that much....

I will be around Boston at the end of august with the family to visit my wife's friend who happen to be a doctor at Havard so I can't wait for my beers!!! I would have love to see my first Red Sox game in Boston but it's the Yankees that are in town and there's seems to be no freakin tickets left....

It was a misconception that was vehiculated by a lot of people. The reason why we won all the cups was based on tons of factors. We were pretty advance in scouting, we had a couple of great GM's (see the Lafleur trade...), we had the luxury to groom our own players and it was just our time. I guess that based on this, most teams have their time, reason why OUR time hasn't been coming lately....Let just hope it will at one point or another 'cause the rivalry will then pick it up once more.

I just have to ask a question here. Seems that often times a Bs fan will try to say the rivalry isnt what it was whenever the Habs arent so hot, like last year...but the fact remains the games are almost always close and we played some 7 games series here recently come playoff time.

If that's the case, this would never be a rivalry because honestly it's a pretty one sided one historically, is it not? The Habs have mostly dominated outright.

Like I said, a rivalry doesnt die out if one team isnt as good as the other. If that were the case, there would be no rivalries in the history of sport.

I prefer "Nose Face Killah" for Marchand. Fitting and unique.

Ive watched plenty gallagher this season. Kid is golden. Not sure a can remember any rookies going harder to the net then he. Our bigger players should watch some tape of him and see how its done.

Cant wait for Jared knight. Same junkyard dog mentality.
