Trouba was named "Best Defenseman" at the recent World Juniors, but his excellence was not just on display in Ufa, as he's been a top player at Michigan this season as a freshman and was named to the CCHA All-Conference team. There's an argument he was even the best defenseman in college hockey. Trouba is a great all-around prospect who brings high-end skating, physicality and defensive value to the table. What's been key for Trouba as some NHL sources have noted is that his offensive game is flourishing to where you combine it with his defensive abilities, he has all the looks of an elite prospect. He tied for 12th in the country in defenseman scoring, but was second in shots on goal. The latter is more predictive of offensive ability for defensemen in short seasons. You always have to be wary about projecting a U-20 defenseman into the NHL, and of course he has to sign a pro deal, but you wouldn't find me surprised if Trouba is a Jet within the next 12 months and at the very longest in 2014-15.
I hope you don't mind but I borrowed this to pump Jacob's tires in the main board prospects thread.

Lukas Sutter and the Blades are playing on Shaw (channel 9) right now.

Rough night for Saskatoon, trailing 3-0 to P.A. after 1. On the plus side, Sutter is one of only 6 Blades who isn't in the minus column.

Tough night for the Colts. 5-3 loss to Brampton. They scored first, then gave up 3. Scored again early in the 3rd, then Brampton iced it with two more. Scheifele picked up a primary assist on the Colts 3rd goal, and finished even in +/- (man, I wish they tracked more stats in the CHL). One more game to notch his 40th of the year, then it's on to the playoffs, though I wouldn't be surprised if Hawerchuk sits him to give him some rest.

Barries locked into the 2 seed so it's possible he gets sat.

Yeah, now that Barrie has no chance at getting the top seed, I think that there is strong chance that they will be resting some players. Hopefully Mark still plays, but the game on Saturday against Niagara is meaningless in terms of the standings.

Oooops, I checked the Hockey East website and they didn't show any of that on the schedule. I'll update in a minute. Thanks!

Thanks Hammer!

Love Scheifele's shorthanded breakaway goal. So decisive when he decides to shoot. I've seen him pot more than a couple like this, and in SO's - should eventually help the Jets in extra time.

Just one more positive aspect to his game , we need another guy with a plus shot , and he has one , and that should only get better

There were a lot of highlights this week haha. I tried to find Harstad's goal but college stuff is so hard to find.

My favourite is Lowry literally flipping a guy over and scoring. Man among boys.

I should probably already know this and apologies if it has already been discussed, but if the Wolverines get knocked out, could the Jets sign Trouba and dress him this season?

Not sure if it's worth burning a year off his ELC but it might be considered if we stay in the mix and we believe he would be an upgrade on any of our top 6 (or if some of our Dmen are dealt in the coming weeks).

Yes they can. Hell if the Jets and Trouba wanted he could sign right now and dress tonight , there is no need to wait for the college season to end. Of course they would wait, but there is no CBA related reason to do so.

Doubt Trouba would be down to sign. He probably can't drop his classes this late and would miss his finals which would destroy his gpa and pretty much close his option of going back to school if hockey doesn't pan out.

Jason Kasdorf is going to be 21 in a couple of months, and is doing really well in college. I doubt if Carrozzi will be qualified. Would it make sense for the Jets to try to sign Kasdorf for next season, so that he could be challenged more in the minors instead of college?

American colleges seem to work different. Many college players are signing now (Saponari and Kellan Lain signing with Vancouver).

He's older, but he is still just a freshman in college. Let him continue to develop there.

I'm rather hopeing the Jets draft Patrik Bartosak out of Red Deer, one of, if not the best, goalie in the WHL this year. He is a 19 year old this year and can head to St. John's to be in a tandem with Pasquale next year.

My guess would be they will probably give out camp invites or sign a few ATOs to unsigned goalies graduating CHL or NCAA in the beginning of next season.

Looks like Hawerchuk sat his first line tonight to rest them before the playoffs, so Scheifele will finish with 39 goals on the season. Great result! Looking forward to watching the Colts in the playoffs this year - it'll be quite the challenge, and would be great if Scheifele can help bring home the championship.

I'd prefer Barrie had a quick exit. Mark needs to get off the ice and in the gym for an extended period of time.
