That doesn't make sense. An opportunity to further develop his leadership skills would be lost. Being the top player on a championship team would be absolute gold for his developmental curve. He can hit the gym afterwards.

He can go to the gym for years. Winning brings way more things to someone.

It's not going to happen. Three rounds are almost guaranteed, all the way to the end is a possibility. The Colts would definitely be the top seed if not for the games missed by Scheifele, Camara, Ekblad etal. They're rolling right now...Belleville should be the only real test between now and the OHL final.

You want his positive leadership experience cut short for a few weeks of time in they gym?

I counter with: I hope Barrie wins the championship. Putting on weight this summer is a good goal, but he managed to put 10lbs on last summer even with the Barrie playoffs AND the IceCaps playoffs. More importantly for me, I would like to see him improve his strength on skates. Neither of these things should be affected an inordinate amount by a few extra weeks in a championship run.

Just MO.

It's a few weeks of gym time that he just hasn't had in his life. Every summer has been taken up by Excellence Programs and Team Canada camps. Eight extra weeks in April and May in Winnipeg with the Jets training staff doing mostly off ice work would do wonders for him.

I think the leadership angle is overblown for Mark. He can learn it at the pro level from the players around him. We don't need him to come in and be a leader on this team. We need him to come in and stand on his feet when battling for a puck.

Just mho.

I disagree, but understand and can appreciate your reasoning.

Winning and the experience and life lessons it brings with it are FAR more valuable than some time in the Gym. You cannot teach what you gain from winning unless you do it. I honestly don't think you'd ever convince someone in the game otherwise. My opinion, of course.

Totally not taking into account the fact he gets time off and wouldn't spend all that time in the gym anyways...

Man, adding this kid (Trouba) and having him, Bogo, Buff and Enstrom in our top four is going to be unreal. Kinda like Scheif, its hard not to love this kid!

I think this is a pretty unique situation. I wouldn't recommend it very often. I know there are people "in the game" as you say that would agree with me.

You think there's people in the game who would say "screw playoffs, let's go to the gym." ?

I seriously doubt that.

He definitely needs to be stronger on his skates next year. Playing to win at the highest level in your league is good experience to draw on for the same scenario in the pros as well. I guess that's why they say prospects need to take their time, you can;t accomplish everything at once.

Barrie is 3-1 against Kingston. The loss came in the second game of the season. Should win this series easily. I think they'll sweep or win in 5

They did, I always forget about him.

I'm not sure how the Q's playoff format works though, whether it's divisional or conference. If it's divisional first vs. last seed, they'll play the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

Edit - And they won the season series 6-2.

The top 16 teams in the Q make the playoffs based on points it seems. So perhaps it's just 1st vs 16th, etc etc. If that's the case they'd play the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. 1-1 season series.

Good news: Connor Hellebuyck's and Jacob Trouba's teams have both advanced in the playoffs.

Bad news: Jason Kasdorf's Engineers lost 3-2 to Brown University today, eliminating them from the playoffs. Kasdorf had an oddly poor game giving up 3 goals on 14 shots, while at the other end Brown University's tender stood strong giving up only 2 goals on 40 shots.

That's gotta be disappointing losing a game when you outshoot them 40 to 14.

The IceCaps have signed Vinny Saponari to an ATO as per the St. John's Telegram

Quote:
Just before the game, the IceCaps officially announced they've signed forward Vinny Saponari to an amateur tryout contract.
The 23-year-old Saponari was a fourth-round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers (later to become the Winnipeg Jets) in 2008 out of the U.S. National Team Development Program, where he was a teammate of IceCaps' forward John Albert.
Full article here.

I apologize if this has already been discussed since it happened a couple days ago, but I didn't see any mention here or in the IceCaps thread.
