Damien Cox - Dumber Than a Post

Taken from Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down on www.tsn.ca

Quote:
Damien Cox - Toronto Star columnist: My thumb is up for the cancellation of the NHL draft. Yes I feel bad for Sidney Crosby - it would have been a coronation for him - and I feel bad for Ottawa hoteliers who would have picked up a few bucks, but enough of this process. It's an anachronism. We don't need the NHL draft anymore - certainly not nine rounds or seven rounds or 12 rounds or what they're all putting together. It has become a television event, but not necessarily an event that speaks to the future and health of this sport. You don't need the draft and hopefully this cancellation will mean there is never another one.
I am honestly speechless. Completely and utterly speechless.

Cox is a fool.
The entry draft is one my favorite hockey days of the year.I enjoy the discussions about team needs, drafting, trades and everything else the Entry draft panelists discuss on D-day.
I've heard posters say they've watched a behind the scenes show involving the Entry draft. What channel is that on and when is it aired?
Thanks for any info on that.

I've never liked Cox, I wonder sometimes if he was born with a brain, or if it was just removed. So I wonder what he sudjest they do in stead of a draft, what his idea is, if he's even capable of coherent thought.

Tell it to the players

I think a 7 round draft is nuts, but to outright can it?

Good idea, and while we're at it, let the team with the most money buy the most prospects.

So Cox is a Leaf fan.

It's too bad his kids are probably too young to realize how daddy puts the food on the table. He's a disgrace. If you can't do your job with dignity and purpose, go find a meaningful role in society and do something worthwhile.

That goes out to all the pathetic "journalists", Steve Simmons, Al Strachan, etc... these guys are no better than tabloid writers.

If this gets me my second warning of the day, so be it, but this is without a doubt a brand new low for hfboards. You realize of course that the Sun is a tabloid, right?

I dont think what Cox meant was for there to never be a draft. I didnt see it, but i would assume that Cox meant the whole thing should be done via conference call instead of making it a televised event. That being said Im no fan of Damien Cox.

I wouldn't mind if there was no drafts. That just means we can sign any youngsters we want. Jeff Carter playing for the Leafs would be a reality if there were no drafts.

The Sun in London? Yes.

The Sun in Toronto? No.

and Damien Cox works for the Toronto Star not the Sun.

Two points. First, if you call someone over to the computer and have them read the quote to which I was replying to you, you'll note that it says "That goes out to all the pathetic "journalists", Steve Simmons, Al Strachan, etc... these guys are no better than tabloid writers." Simmons and Strachan write for the Sun.

Second point. This is a quote from the Quebecor media website, who own the Sun chain. "Sun Media Corporation is the largest chain of tabloids and community newspapers in Canada. The group publishes 8 metropolitan dailies, covering most of the country's major urban markets."

It's a tabloid. You learned something, now move on with your day.

well since you want to be an ass about it.

"Sun Media Corporation is the largest chain of tabloids and community newspapers in Canada. The group publishes 8 metropolitan dailies, covering most of the country's major urban markets."

very nice but lets change the tags a little.

"Sun Media Corporation is the largest chain of tabloids and community newspapers in Canada. The group publishes 8 metropolitan dailies, covering most of the country's major urban markets."

secondly strachan is on CBC and Simmons is on TSN as well does this bring down both stations? no it does not.

The Toronto Sun like it or not is a newspaper, or are AP reports tabloids now too?

I'm not trying to say the sun is a high educational read or anything, quite the opposite it is an inferior paper, but it's still a newspaper and bashing it as a tabloid does not make any sense what so ever as the supermarket tabloid and the sun are far apart.

I do agree with Steen though, Simmons and Strachan do suck, but not because of the paper I find their articles in, but because of the filth that is their articles. is Canoe.ca a tabloid? is TSN Tabloidish? what about CBC? or Sportsnet since Strachan was on it too? the fact is those two stretch out beyond the Toronto Sun.

The Toronto Sun is indeed a tabloid, and the Toronto Star, Globe & Mail, National Post are broadsheets. Tabloid technically refers to the way the pages are put together.
