You know another player with Franzen's caphit? Wayne Simmonds.

If we used Franzen's money somewhere else, yes, we would be better without him.

I do find it funny people are talking about buying out his contract during the 3rd game he has played since coming off an injury. And also thinking that removing our leading scorer from last year without solving the problem of Datsyuk playing with garbage is going to make this team better.

Okay.
What a disingenuous post.
the criticism about Franzen's intensity isn't three games old

While I think Franzen is worth his cap hit now, I don't blame people who want to buy him out. Because 3-4 years from now, I can see Franzen being almost useless.

After two periods, the amount of blatant missed calls is astounding. The high-stick on Tootoo. Carcillo's trip on Smith. Brunner gets held up at the end of the 2nd. Even the most jaded fan may think the NHL is trying to get the Hawks to OT.

Also, Franzen looks really soft out there. Pick up the pace, Mule!

Zetterberg and Howard look really good.

Chicago's puck pressure from all four forward units is very impressive. There is very little space out there, and we have guys who aren't all that skilled trying to hold up and make plays. This worked when we were more talented than other teams, but not when we are out-skilled. Too many turnovers are caused by this. If your name isnt Pavel or Henrik, dump it in.

I haven't been as hostile as some posters to playing Cleary and Abby with Pavel (not that I like it), but today is definitely showing how inadequate they are. We are lining Pavel up against Toews, Hossa, Keith and Seabrook with virtually no help.

Anyone want to see Cleary just get run over and injured, not in a sinister way, but for the sake of the team.

Babcock will play him even more after he gets injured.

So you are saying we would be able to acquire Wayne Simmonds? And we would need Franzen's contract off the books in order to make that happen? Didn't know we were so tight against the cap.

If you have nothing to spend the money on when you remove the player, then you aren't getting any better.

Bob: I know the criticisms of Franzen aren't 3 games old. I am saying the desire to buy him out without any idea of what we would do with all that extra money 3 games from injury is ridiculous. It's not disingenuous, at all.

This ^.

If you are an honest Wings fan, there is no way that you can be supportive of the effort and intensity, or lack thereof, that Franzen has brought to the table since 2011.

He simply does not bring it on a nightly basis.

Detroit has done a good job making sure Chicago's second chance isn't that great.
Chicago is keeping possession, though.

Detroit was better in the second half of that period.

Anybody complaining about Franzen's contract needs to look at Abdelkader's 1.7 million x four year deal and the deal I'm fearing Filppula will get.

Is it that hard for you to follow?

I'm saying there are players out there with caphits similar to Franzen who play a much better more consistent game.

And yeah, if we had an extra 4 mill to spend, I'm sure we could go out and grab a couple players that would do better than Franzen.

It's sure looking that way.

Every time someone does a lineup that ships out Miller and keeps Abby, I point out that Miller brings everything Abby does, and more, at half the cost. Especially if Abby is going to keep playing wing and not center.

Am I hoping too much if Babs would shuffle the lines a bit? Dats can't get it done against Hawks with those plugs. Tatar's speed is not in use with Andersson and Eaves.

I don't see a drop off for Franzen in point production over his career much less since his contract.

Funny that we could do that AND keep franzen and his turrible cap hit. Maybe I'm not the one who is having trouble following things. And regardless you aren't getting a guy with a similar cap hit without a trade (and who do we have that has any trade value right now?) so buying him out in the middle of the season is pointless and doesn't make our team better.
