Bill Daly, the N.H.L. deputy commissioner, reiterated Wednesday morning the N.H.L.’s position that visor use ought to be made mandatory for the league’s players.
“The league continues to support a rule that would make visors mandatory in N.H.L. games,” Daly said via e-mail in the aftermath of the injury to the Rangers’ Marc Staal Tuesday night. “As you know, it has been the consistent position of the Players’ Association that they are opposed to mandating visor use, that it should be a matter of ‘player choice,’ and that increased visor use by players should be achieved through continued education and sensitization to the dangers associated with non-use. I believe that continues to be the Players’ Association’s position, although I cannot speak for them.”
It seems that more players are coming in and continuing to wear visors in the NHL, I don't think this is something that has to be mandated, I think things are just moving in that direction. I wonder if the NHL is just waiting for a time when a large majority of player, like over 90-95 percent, end up wearing the visors and then make a push with the idea "most of the PA are wearing visors anyway now"-with the hope that the majority of PA who ARE wearing visors at that point say "you know what, I'm okay with that".
