Ference was awful last night

I think he has become our 6th defenceman. Because of the penalty to Chara he had to play more and was awful. Giveaways in the zone on numerous occasions. We need a top 4 defenceman and a winger before the playoffs

Mark Streit would be great for us. How about Matt Bartkoski and second rounder for him ?

Just last night?

Ference is a good solider, teammate, citizen. But I think what we have here is a clear case of a guy who wants very badly to stay in Boston, and a team that is very clearly moving on from him. He knows it, and it's showing up in his play.

Streit is the Isles captain, they're apparently talking extension with him. The cost would be a 1st easy, and could easily be 1st and Bartkowski or more.

And if I thought you could keep him after the season. I'd do it. My biggest fear is the Bruins go down 2-1 in a series, Julien reigns in Dougie, and we're left with Chara/Seids and 3 guys allergic to rubber.

Ference has become the 7th defenseman... I'd have much more confidence in Aaron Johnson at this point.

I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt until the season is at least halfway over, but it's getting tough to. The guy looks like he's lost a step this year. Pinches at the wrong times, fumbles the puck constantly, and isn't playing with a lot of confidence.

He needs to sit for a game and collect himself. I think there's still a solid hockey player in there somewhere.

Ference has aways been an on/off player. Its frustrating.

Boychuk has been just as bad, if not worse. I'm sure Ference would look better if he was carried by Chara.

The world must be coming to an end or something because for the second time today, I agree with something you said...

Ference has been terrible all season long. He's been out of position constantly, losing the one on one battles, and appears disinterested much of the time. And I say this as a guy who's been a big fan of AF's for his entire time here. The time to move on is ASAP. Get Streit now...

Krug. If you bench Ference, you bring up Krug.

Ference was making tape-to-tape passes to Montreal's forecheckers all night long. And because Chara took himself off the ice for 17 minutes, it was made even worse.

Krejci and Ference both had 2 giveaways, and were both -1. But Krejci was the only B to suck in the dot, frequently did nothing in the offensive zone, and had Julien literally yelling at him the whole night. Ference sucked because of the 4 PIMs too I suppose.

They both were awful.

this. I think in 3rd pairing minutes he'd be okay on defense, and having four D-men who know what to do with the puck would be nice.

If you're going to make your forwards hand hold all game and have Chara shelter everybody, at least try to get some upside out of it.

Ference has been awful this whole season so far. I have been saying it a lot and people have been brushing it off.

I'll give Krejci a pass since its his first bad game of the season that I've seen. Plus, it looked like he may have gotten dinged up the last game a bit. I'm a big Ference supporter, however he does go through stretches where he looks like garbage but then he comes out of it. Hopefully he wakes up soon. I don't know why he is so hot and cold. It looks like he is nervous out there and is making horrendous decisions with and without the puck. If we end up moving out a defenseman, he looks like the number one target to move based on his play, salary and UFA status. The only redeeming thing he has going on at the moment is the fact that he is supposedly a great locker room/character.If all of our guys are firing on all cylinder's, we would have a better defensive group than we had in 2011. Dougie is certainly playing better then Kaberle did.

I agree, but we have seen stretches of great play from him in the past as well. Hopefully he gets it turned around. You can say the same things about Kelly, Pevs and Thornton too. They all need to elevate their game a bit to match what is expected of them.

well.. ference did play really well in thursdays game .. but boy he looks bad.. krejci looked bad but his night would have seemed a lot better with the three assist to horton who only seems able to put about 1 out of every 8 amazing goal opportunities..

Siedenberg was uncharacteristically bad last night which did not help.

with as much as he misses the net and turns over the puck, Ference could get an endorsement deal with LensCrafters®

THAT is great insight... I worry about ference though, I feel like this contract talk may be hurting his play.

I am the biggest Krejci fan but he was off last night- agree. He had serious jump Saturday but I watched him like I do Afam here (like a hawk-I'm kidding mods) and he was off- no jump. However, even Nazim Kadri the great young Leafs center I been reading about on the Leafs board, has an off game.

I hope Claude keeps them off the ice tonight, they go to DC late afternoon, get some rest and maybe do a light skate tomorrow just to get the bugs out. Krejci looked tired to me but he's still soooooooooo awesome.
