Another fantastic episode. Of course, it left a big question. If the Northumbrian king didn't care about his brother all that much, why not just butcher Ragnar and his top lieutenants while they had them in his stronghold? (And yes, they should have done it before breaking bread so as to not offend their Christian morals.)

Strong points:

1) Beautiful battle scene. Rollo going berserk was amazing, and I loved the exhaustion shown at the end with him stumbling around taking down other equally spent opponents. Most TV and movie battles go for the stylized fun and forget that after about two minutes of running around swinging weapons, most fighting turned into a battle of stamina and attrition.

2) Really enjoyed the stuff with Ragnar's wife back home. The show is starting to find it's voice and is doing a great job of juggling stories now. That baby...

3) FLOKI!

4) I'm glad (to some extent) they're still showing there's a language barrier, except in the case of Ragnar. A crappy show would just have them all speaking English to each other and not even pretend 99% of these people couldn't communicate.

5) Sets and cinemotography continue to be top notch.

Best episode, damn that was intense.

I thought the feast scene, and the ending battle scene were two of the best in the series. When those spikes went up, I was like awesome! Also love when they form the shield wall. Also glad the old guy died in battle like he wanted, loved that smile between him and Ragnar just as he passed away.

Floki, just lol.

Floki is so awesome this show has many memorable characters and I love it! I was hoping they'd take the gold then still pillage the city since the "Christians" word obviously means so much but its obvious they lost too many men.

Can't wait to see what else Rolo does to earn favor with the gods.

Yet another solid episode. Everything about this show is awesome. From the intro on. Alot of great characters Floki, Ragnar, Rollo. The cinematography is also top notch. I hope Ragnar kills that King.

I wonder if Ragnar is going to think that the gods punished him for allowing Rolo to get baptized. Ragnar's wife miscarried, right? That could be construed as a sign of displeasure from the gods. If he does think that, or is led to believe that, the rift between him and Rolo will certainly expand.

I am really enjoying this series! Just catching up - at the point where Ragnar takes the throne and the three ships are sailing into the heart of Northumbria.

It appears that IRL, Ragnar's life ended in a pit of vipers (which we've seen!), and then his sons (more or less) conquered Northumbria. Will be interesting to see how close to historical the series stays. ATM, he doesn't have enough sons, or old enough sons, to meet his end for a while yet, but who knows how the producers will play with the legends.

Great series, anyway!

That was intense. Sad that we only got one more episode left, but knowing we are getting another season is great.

Gah. Love this show. This episode was quite the mind****. What was up with the dead yarl's daughter and Athlestan? Did he suspect he would be a sacrifice before being rejected for it? How willing really was he to renounce his faith? Everything was so subtle and well done I'm still not entirely sure what happened.

Great series. My wife's got some Norwegian blood and she hopped on the longboat right out of the gate. It was just on in the background and I wasn't really paying much attention at first, but now I'm definitely a viewer. Great episode tonight. Loved the Viking Woodstock. Knew the priest was being set up; was like "RUN AWAY!!" during his shroom trip.

I do miss Gabriel Byrne, though. Not that he was going to last long if he was set against the main character on the show.

Maybe the first "slow" episode of the whole series. And even then, it was pretty sweet.

That was quite the party.

thought the last episode was the best, have really enjoyed the series as every episode has been good. Kudos to the history channel for doing something that actually is about history for a change.
