I really am against the Pens emptying the cupboard for what will amount to most likely a few week rental. I am not against the use of their assets to solve their search for a wing for Crosby. But a long term solution, not a rental. Crosby is a Pens for life, I do not want them to be looking again next year with nothing to trade for one then.
If Shero thinks he has a chance of re-signing Iginla I'd have few issues with letting go of Maatta & a 1st. If not I'd prefer he looked elsewhere for a less expensive rental or similarly priced but more long-term solution.

Pitts moved their 1st + their first the year before (Esposito) + Armstrong (equal to Kennedy) + Christensen who looked to be breaking out into a solid 3rd line player for Hossa + Dupuis (throw in)

Comparing the Hossa return (with his age and production at the time) with what you think Iggy will fetch (with his age and production) is down right laughable.

Christensen didn't look to be breaking out into anything. The only reason he was even playing instead of in the press box is because he was pretty much a lock in shootouts and it seemed like the Pens played a ton of OT games that season.
I agree Calgary will get a non-conditional first, though.

What I was saying is that Hossa wasn't having his greatest season and at the deadline returned far more than just the year previous prospect and there was no guarantee on Hossa resigning. Top line rentals cost alot we have seen it before, Hossa was arguable worth more so leave out Christensen and Armstrong comparable and that is probably the price you are looking at.
Hell look at Pronger got 2 1sts and Lupul and a first round prospect from the year before in Sbisa. He was the same age as Iginla.
Penguins have been rumored many times recently that they will make a pitch for iginla to play with Crosby, it's not known if feaster will try to sign him or to put him on the market and try to rebuild. Penguins have also been in the market for another defenseman and third line player so what do you think of this trade and if its fair value...

Christensen was a healthy scratch at the time of the trade and had been sparsely used all season - he was nothing more than a shootout specialist. The only thing he looked like was that he was going to be out of a job soon...he was a common whipping boy.
Calgary almost certainly will get a 1st in any deal for Iginla, just setting things clear that Christensen was hardly a valuable asset.

That is debatable last year Kostisyn returned 2nd + conditional 5th and he only had 24 points in 52 games and he was a rental, Tanguay is clearly better and has been for several years and signed to a good contract. Penner got 1st + 3rd + good prospect and was barely playing a .6 ppg pace that year. Hard to not imagine Tanguay getting a 1st +.

I'd be speechless if either of those two were moved for Tanguay, and I'd be pretty shocked if Maatta was as well.
He is easily worth a 1st, so unless you value those prospects as higher than a first I don't see why it's shocking. I could understand Despres because he is a roster player but the other two are pretty run of the mill 1st rounders in my opinion (yes I know Pouliot was a top 10 pick).

Yes I didn't say it was terrible, but he was playing with Kovy a fair amount. He was clearly a rental and while I agree he was worth more than Iginla, Iginla has proven to be a top line talent and all the examples of top line talent being moved always return 1st + good prospect +. I was merely using Hossa as an example that a Pitts fan would get.

Iggy is in the very twilight of his career and hossa was still in his prime and coming off 100 & 90+ point seasons.

Not sure why Babchuk was wanted by the OP. He does have size to him, but he is not a physical presence. He does use his body and positioning, and is extremely underrated for having a great first pass, but he is what he is - a 6-7th d-man, power-play specialist. One rocket of a shot, and is really good at keeping the puck in the offensive zone on the PP.
I would assume he would be available for a low round pick to a team that needs help on the PP.
As for Glencross... Apparently he took 1 million off his contract to get a NTC to stay in Calgary. Has a ranch here, and works the Calgary Stampede in the off-season. I would assume he may waive to go to Edmonton if he waives at all.
