Makarov ought to be at the very top of such a list.

Fair enough.

EDIT: Wow, that "lol" icon is a little intense.

This could finally be something Ovechkin gets praise for

LaFontaine would probably be considered the greatest American player ever if concussions didn't derail his career.

So LaFontaine, definitely.

He was my childhood hero, so I'm probably a little biased.

I'm not going to include guys like Makarov who spent their primes in Europe. I'm also not going to include Ovechkin or other active players who have a lot of time left to win a Cup.

1. Brad Park
2. Marcel Dionne
3. Borje Salming
4. Bill Gadsby
5. Roy Worters/Peter Stastny

HM: Perreault, Hawerchuk, Lindros

Edti: Can't believe I forgot Norm Ullman.

Yeah, except he doesn't have a decent excuse like Kariya's concussions, or Lindros' being a douchecanoe.

This is the only list so far that's even worth looking at. I agree with the top 4 but I'd put Hawerchuk 5th.

10 posts and this is the first one that names Brad Park anywhere.

This is my list and I could flip flop on #1 and #2:

Brad Park
Marcel Dionne
Gilbert Perreault
Norm Ullman
Dale Hawerchuk

Lots of great players that never won. Stastny and Ratelle could easily be on that list, so could Oates. Sundin, Sittler, Salming are Leaf royalty to never win. Lindros if you only measure peak value is pretty close too. I like Norm Ullman in there though. In his prime was a heck of a player. Had some nice playoff runs too when the Wings went to the final.

As for goalies, I find most of the all-time greats win them but there are a couple that come to mind for me. If being a third stringer doesn't count then Tony Esposito is #1 for goalies and to be honest could be on anyone's top 5 list in general. But he did win one in 1969 so by that measure I'll go with Eddie Giacomin.

Can't believe I forgot Norm Ullman I think there's a good case to rank him as high as third.

There is a bit of a logjam after Park and Dionne compiled of mostly centers who could go from 3-10th just like that. People forget about Ullman because they forget this is a guy who came to the Wings in 1955-'56 probably assuming he'll win some Cups. Poor guy.
