Best fan/player altercations of the past?

Which fan vs. player figths do you think were the best. Which do you remember the most? Here are some that come to mind for me.

Milbury vs. the Ranger fans in 1979. After a game in which the Bruins were in New York a brawl starts in the stands in which Stan Jonathan had been cut going off to the dressing room. Mike Milbury and Terry O'Reilly take care of the "caged animals" in the stands. Its the one where Milbury beats a guy with his shoe.

Matthew Barnaby nearly got into a fight with some old guy in 2000-01. It was after a fight and the fan says something to him to which Barnaby goes back to him and grabs his arm. The funny thing was the old guy actually backed up and then started to pretend he was going to hit him. Funny.

Tie Domi on that nut of a Philly fan who came into the penalty box. The fan actually had the nerve to sue the Flyers organization for him falling into the box. I guess it had nothing to do with his enormous weight or his alcohol consumption

There are others but here's a personal one for me. I was at a Kitchener Rangers game last year and the London Knights came into town. It was a brutal game and the Knights won 4-3. After the game the Knights players and coaches are walking to their dressing room and I'm shouting at Dale Hunter, the coach, stuff like "You're a goon, and "no wonder you never won a Stanley Cup Hunter!" Anyways my adrenaline got the best of me and after seeing the Knights players gloating like there's no tomorrow as they headed off I threw a rolled up Hot Dog wrapper (it wasnt heavy) at one of the players. I was trying to hit Corey Perry and he knew it so he motioned to the usher standing near me who did nothing. I just glared at him and said some unmentionables to him. I calmed down after that, and realized that these guys are just teenagers, but man did they ever get me mad that game. And I wasnt the only one throwing things believe me.

The Domi incident is the favourite i've seen.

Out of curiosity, who did you end up hitting with the hot dog wrapper? My buddy's little brother is on that team, and i remember him mentioning getting hit with something from the crowd before, lol

What about that steve sullivan thing... he was hit by a puck and as he was heading to the bench some guy in the stands was making fun of him and later in that game Roy tried to dump the puck out and it went into the crowd and ironically ended up hitting that stupid fan!! I was laughing my ass off when I saw it on the coach's corner and even though I'm not Cherry's biggest fan it was pretty funny when he said " ITS THE JERK!!" LOL

The Broad Street Bullies laid a beating on some of the Canuck faithful back in (I believe it was) 1973-74. Some charges were laid (back up goalie Bobby Taylor is the only one I could remember)

There is a rumour going around that the guy receiving the pounding is Darth Milbury's uncle.

You beat me to it. In recent years, this has been my favorite altercation. It was just too perfect. Sullivan goes up to him and pretends to wipe away tears, like the guy did. The guy's girlfriend was laughing so hard at him. I think she was pretty embarassed though. That was hilarious. Sullivan was really funny too in going up to him. Great moment indeed.

Two incidents:

One was at a Leafs game against the Sabres in the early 80s. One of the Leaf fans was jawing with Playfair, Buffalo's resident enforcer. Anyhoo, Larry said something that got the fan riled up and he hopped over the glass on to the ice with the intent of starting something. Playfair, to his credit, skates away, but this fool with a death wish keeps following him... all the way to the Sabres bench. You know, where all of Larry's teammates are. He then tried to take a swing at Playfair, and missed. The sight of the entire Sabres bench pounding the crap out of that guy was an amazing thing to behold.

Another incident, Kings/Ducks game, at the Forum. A fan hopped onto the ice (wearing a Stars jacket, for some reason) in the middle of play. It soon becomes evident that he's trying to get Rob Blake's attention. Blake turns his back on the guy and skates away. Ray Ferraro, ever the gentleman, gives the guy an escort to security waiting by the zamboni entrance. What does the guy do when he reaches security? He throws a punch at one of them. They had his ass on the ground with a knee in his back in 0.3 seconds. Moron.

I recall a Saturday afternoon Winnipeg-Boston game in Boston Garden; a fan came onto the ice and tried to go after the ref (Bill McCreary perhaps?) and was subsequently thwarted by linesman Ron Asselstine.

Maybe someone recalls the details a bit better, it was around 1989 or so. I think the fan was upset because a Bruins' player was slashed or high-sticked (Glen Wesley perhaps) and he left the ice in a stream of blood to a non-call.

It was the 1972-73 season. Don Saleski and Barry Wilcox fought near the boards/glass. A fan, who was a doctor (dentist?), grabbed Saleski by the hair. Seeing this, Bobby Taylor (back up goalie) left the bench to go after the fan, then Barry Ashbee and others entered the fray and then all hell broke loose.

From a historical perspective that was an action packed weekend involving the Bruins: The Boston-NY Rangers brawl came the day after the Flyers beat the Bruins (12/22/79) in Boston to break the NHL record with their 29th straight game without a loss.

Surprised no-one's mentioned Rob Ray pounding a guy who ran onto the ice and up to the Sabres bench at la Colisee in Quebec.

Curt Fraser (?) attacking a mascot in an IHL game isn't exactly player-fan, but close enough to mention. Funny as hell.

The movie Slap Shot is based on the NAHL's 1974-75 Champions, the Johnstown Jets. That incident really did happen in Utica, New York in a game between the Jets and Mohawk Valley Comets.

Here's a link to a 30th anniversary article from The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown, PA.

According to the Dave "Killer" Hanson and Jeff and Steve Carlson's commentary on the DVD, Guido Tenesi (who played the vain Billy Charlebois in the movie) was mistakenly taken by the police.

The screenplay was written by Nancy Dowd. Her brother, Ned, played on the team and portrayed "Ogie" Oglethorpe in the movie when it was determined, rightly or wrongly, that Billy "Goldie" Goldthorpe was too dangerous to play the character based on Goldthorpe.

I was a season-ticket holder at the old Boston Garden back then and attended the Jets-Bruins game you're talking about. A guy from Medford(I think) vaulted the side glass, not far from my corner balcony seats, as the teams lined up for a faceoff. He began jogging towards referee Bill McCreary, supposedly just to have a word or two. The Garden crowd was particularly angry about a high stick to Glen Wesley's eye that wasn't called. Ron Asselstine, the linesman away from the faceoff, skated in full speed and flattened the intruder from behind. The guy went down and slid into the end boards in a heap and was dragged out through the zamboni doors. I can recall the intruder being interviewed on local TV news a few days later, talking about possible legal action, which I doubt went anywhere.

Thanks for the link

Does the streaker in Calgary count? Climbing on the ice and injuring himself slipping, serves the dumbass right.

I was going to mention the one with Ray an dthe Quebec fan.

Also several Blues players wentr into the crowd in Philly after someone threw a beer on Al Arbour and a a real good set to with some fans.

Sasha Lakovic attempted to go into the crowd in Edmonton when someone threw a Drink on calgary Assistant Guy Lapointe. He made it halfway over the glass before teammates pulled him back over.
