these types of players often engage the Habs skilled players and the Habs only have Prust willing to engage them.
You dont understand hockey in our rough and tumble NE Division then.

We didnt choose the style of teams that Toronto or Boston or Buffalo or Ottawa plays with now. They did.

Watch a hockey game where two teams who have "enforcers" on their bench play. Those enforcers are amped up and ready to demolish someone. Usually you will see a fight between the two enforcers within the first couple of shifts. They get their adrenalin rush out of the way and get to pound on someone for 30 seconds.

After that, the game typically settles down into a game of hockey.....skill against skill since the hostilities have taken place.

Who does Thornton get to blow steam off against us? What about Toronto? The answer is simple. Anyone they want to because no one will step up and fight their tough guy.

Its really a simple concept that too many people cannot understand.

Again, look at the teams in our division......

Ryan White? He's so confused he doesn't know what to do anymore

the Heavyweights have no use against the Habs...most teams don't even bother playing their heavies vs the Habs. It's the tough non-goons that give the Habs problems...
Thornton was in the game against the Habs last time we played them.

So was McClaren. So was Neil. So was Parros. So was Scott.

I am seeing a pattern with the anti-enforcer crowd. Poorly informed.

Edit to add..........

Any person that brings up Laraque as an example of what an enforcer should be based upon his short tenure here in Montreal deserves a few of these.........

He beat people up. All clean and easy like.

Personally I don't like the wild fist's of fury vendetta street fights. You just know one or both of them are going to get hurt. Don't like it. Don't like it when it happens to one of our guy's (see tom pyatt) Don't like it when we do it to one of there guy's (see.... I can't recall that happening recently actually.)

But you get it.

Didn't we beat all of those teams on the scoreboard despite not giving them a dance partner to fire up their team?

Hell no we dont need an enforcer. Prust is as close to an enforcer as we need.

Most of the rest of the guys on the team don't take any crap from anyone either.

That's all you need....guys that don't take crap. They don't need to be able to fight.

I love enforcers but we don't need one . Look how useless an Orr or Parros type player looks against us. They're almost universally slow and inadequate to NHL standards.

So true. When the Bruins won the Cup in 2011 they barely had any fighting majors in the last 2 rounds. Having a designated goon is a waste of roster space.

Our record in our division is 4-4-2. And don't forget we're in the most physical division. That's not very good.

Ok, so why is Boston have so many fighters, Toronto, Ottawa, etc?

Montreal still needs more toughness and guys who can stick up for team mates. I agree that a useless goon is not needed on a regular basis but if you can get someone like Boll who actually is a good 4th line player he will not hurt you since he has hockey skills as well.

You're mixing up 2 kind of players here :

- Valuable energy players who also are great at fighting (Thornton, Neil)
- and enforcers who wouldn't have a job in the NHl if staged fighting were prohibited tomorrow (Parros, McLaren, Scott)

I'm sure all the so-called anti-enforcer crowd would gladly welcome a player from the first category because they indeed are a pain in the ass to play against. You want them on your side!

But a Parros kind of player, who ended last game at -2 with 6 min of play should probably not have been dressed against the Habs.

If we had a legit HW, Neil would not have behaved like a bully on the ice and the bench.

Why is it so hard to fathom the possibility on the 4th line? He cannot be anymore lifeless then Moen and Armstrong, which this season have brought **** all to the table. If no enforcer, then they would be better off to bring up a bigger body like Blunden. They aren't getting much energy from that line besides White, who has been decent.

I personally would throw in a claim for Eager.

I would prefer we had our own Neil. Prust kinda fit the bill, but Neil is Neil.

Thing about Prust is he has actually been a good player for us, i'd perfer him not fighting 2-3 times a week, be nice to have a fighter to grab neil and orr and a few of the idiots why prust can stick to the energy role with a few scraps here and there

Neil is a rare breed of players though, perfect agitator, can easily back his antics, isn't afraid of anyone, and can play hockey...

Moen is... meh, I didn't expect him to fight more than in the last seasons, but at least hit and play physical, which ain't the case, same for Armstrong. We need guys like Matt Martin and Colin McDonald from the Isles...

Go watch MMA. Georges st. pierre will beat people down for the province of Quebec. The Habs will win hockey games ok?

This is hockey.

Neil ran around like a baby and didn't affect us at all.

Neil would be perfect for us but Martin and Thorburn are the guys we could realistically get!

Wow some people are in major denial.

In other news, Travis Moen and Colby Armstrong are 2 ******* and 1 of those 2 will lose his job when Prust is healthy.
