Keep the two lines that work together, and try another winger for Spezza.
Love this.

Yeah, looks good. Allows three potential scoring lines, gives MacLean
flexibility to play the line that is performing on a given night and keeps everybody competing for minutes.

Switch Greening and Pageau. Might as well see what pageau can do with Spezza since he's the only one on the team who hasnt played with him...(besides Turris)

Has Pageau ever played wing though? (honest question)

Maybe we send him down and give Hoff/Schneider/Grant a look on the 4th line

Looking forward to seeing Stone Wednesday. Hope he makes the best of it, he's as ready as Zibanejad was at the beginning of this season, and like Zibby I think all he needs is NHL ice time to adjust to this level.

His scouting profile says he can play all offensive positions. Not sure if he ever has besides a few shifts here or there. I don't see why he couldn't his IQ is very good.

This is Stones chance to shine! If he plays well we can send Pageau down once Neil comes back and he gets power play time and plays 13-16 mins a night he will be successful! Like people said he was as ready as Zibanejad was and just was caught in a numbers game.

Now he has a chance to make his mark!

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Conacher-Zibanejad-Michalek
Pageau-Spezza-Stone
Greening-Smith-Condra

But I'd prefer to send Pageau down (still very young and need more development time) and call-up Hoffman, Schneider or Petersson

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Petersson-Spezza-Stone
Conacher-Zibanejad-Michalek
Greening-Smith-Condra

Spezza always look better with new unknown linemates (Michalek, Butler, Greening...)

Roll 4 lines and give more ice-time to those who are playing the best. Changes from game to game.

Love the idea of Stone getting called up, hopefully Spezza will be able to play Thursday against Winnipeg. If so, than I agree with most who would play Greening - Spezza - Stone together to create a third scoring line. It`s that 4th line I don`t like, Pageau needs to be sent back to Bingo he doesn`t fit in the bottom six or top six for that matter. Kassian - Smith - Condra should be the 4th line until Neil gets back & he can replace Condra. Pageau needs to be sent to Bingo asap & replaced with Grant who fits better in the bottom six & is versatile enough to play centre or wing.

Right now, Smith is the last guy who should have his ice time reduced. He is skating better than I ever remember, and has been playing against the other team's top line. I would keep Smith with Greening and Condra, and maybe try a line of Spezza with Stone and Pageau on the wing. Let them get as much ice time as they earn.

Prince Lazar Stone, need a playmaker and that's Prince.

Maybe we'll see Prince Lazar Puempel in Bingo next year, that could work.

While I wish Stone the best he isn't close to where Zibby was at the beginning of the season nor is he close now.

Stone will play a very cautious simple game, defense first.

"H2O":

I think that Lazar has to play up in Ottawa or go back to juniors next season.

I was hoping he would get 9 games with Ottawa this season, so next yr would like to see him get 9 games with Ottawa, hell hope he can stay up with Ottawa the whole yr. If he is ready, I am high on him......

Agree with you regarding Smith.

If MacLean decides to keep the Turris & Zibanejad lines intact, then I have to agree with sending Pageau back to Bingo. There will be enough adjusting with Spezza and Stone without trying to convert Pageau to his other wing.

A line with Spezza and Stone is not going to be the quickest or fastest pairing so Greening would be the logical winger to provide speed on the backcheck.

That said, I seriously MacLean leaves the Zibanejad line intact though I hope he surprises me.

Zibby has been almost like a rover this season, playing spot duty on all four lines depending on what is happening. His numbers are really impressive, all things considered. I believe MacLean is still trying to be cautious about how he uses Zibby, but the play of the rest of the team is forcing his hand a bit.

I am really hoping Stone shows his stuff this time around. He has some great tools, and if he worked as hard on his skating as he was supposed to, and can make it to an average NHL level, he can be a force for this team.

That's a really big if. Speed is something that can't be taught. If you're a poor skater at Stone's age it's next to impossible to improve to the level of an average NHLer.

Not true, especially considering how much he's improved. I guess you will see tomorrow.

Thinking the same thing. Hockey IQ can't be taught, and Stone has tons of it. He wasn't the fastest player at the rookie tournament when I saw him play, but he was 10 steps (mentally) ahead of the opposition and had no trouble picking off passes or forchecking hard to create turnovers. Him and Pageau just destroyed in that tournie.

You can always work on stride and strength, but you'll be hard pressed to find many young players that read the game like this kid does.

The Senators have a great track record improving skating. Spezza (pre-2013) improved his skating tremendously from his early days.

Smith, Stone, Puempel are other guys that showed stong improvement in their skating abilities.

People used to think skating ability was what it was - but that was a ridiculous notion, there is proper technique to skating and while its hard to change ones style, it can be done with great effect.
