And I know the defender tripped up a step on his breakaway, but to all his skater haters...suck it. He's got good straight away speed and can keep up with the play just fine.

I don't see him going down again. He proved he could be effective in the bottom six, even on the 4th, and that's what some of the worries about him are about. He also understands his role right now. Get dirty goals in front of the net. When he gets established he can start dishing more and playing the half boards.

When a reporter asked a Detroit scout about Mantha's skating issues, he replied, "he can score". The same can be said about Stone, in fact, they remind me of each other, two big bodies who aren't the fastest skaters but the puck seems to find them & they have the ability to bury it. Who do you prefer, Condra who can skate but can't score or Stone who can't skate but can score? I'll take the kind who can score & if you look at Stone's production in Bingo he is at two pts per game in limited action. I would love to get Mantha somehow since he plays left wing & Ottawa could use a goal scoring LWer.

I would also prefer to see Stone play with Spezza & Greening to see if they can create another scoring line. I would also like to see Pageau sent back to Bingo & Grant called back up, IMO he fits better in the bottom six than Pageau. PM has two lines going now & adding a third would certainly help this team go on a run. Ottawa has an opportunity to be a big tough team that is hard to play against & can roll four lines if only they put out the right personnel which they have in their organization.

Yea, Pageau and Stone have crazy chemistry together. In rookie tournament and in Bingo.

His acceleration speed is definitely not average. His breakaway speed is average/slightly above. However, he has come a long way since his CHL days and I think more summer training can improve that part of the game for sure.
I have seen Stone at the rookie tournament the last couple years and play several dozen games in Bingo and I just feel that his skating issues are tremendously overblown now. He will never be the prettiest skater but he has improved tremendously and, as we are seeing tonight, the kid is going to be good.

He is the first player that has come up from Bingo and looked GOOD on the fourth line with Kassian and others....

Exactly. He is absolutely carrying that line right now. We all know there will be bumps in the road but this kid has talent written all over him.

Could you imagine...? To be allowed to waterski behind players, grab and hook... He looks like he could stickhandle in a phone booth which is exactly what you needed back in the day.

He looks dangerous every time he's on the ice. Makes something happen. Skating issues are in the past.

Great showing from him. Where are all those who kept knocking him for his skating?

Isn't that something he has been working on really hard though? Looks like it's paying off.

It is. But you know these boards, once a player gets a certain label it sticks. Look at all the inbreds on the main boards who call karlsson a winger.

Stone has a ton of upside and showed some solid flashes of that tonight. He has easily been one of our best prospects for the last few years and was still fairly underrated by our fanbase. I still feel he has significantly better upside than Silfverberg who got a ton of hype on here.

They looked pretty dang good in the last half of the 3rd on a line with MacArthur.

Great stickhandler, passer, high hockey sense and vision, and a heavy shot with a fast release; good height at 6'3, heavy build with a long reach, gritty and tough. Pretty much ticks all the boxes as a player, his negative was always his skating and whether he could improve it to a high enough level. He's worked his ass off and brought it up to a decent level. Very high maximum potential as a player, but I was impressed at the way he made that 4th line dangerous, that is a first for anyone. He also needs to stay healthy, that's something will cripple his ability to play in the nhl.

Just wanted to say about Matt Puempel, he will also be good, just give it time.

MacArthur and Greening were filling in for Kassian in order to get the other two extra shifts.

Congrats to Stone on his first NHL goal!! He was flying all over the ice tonight, skating was great and was going to the net a lot which is exactly what we need.

Looking very Dave Andreychuk-y. That's cool. Definitely a much better skater now than he was a couple years ago.
