So I guess this means he might not be sent down?

I don't get the extension but I will wait to see the cap hit before criticizing it.

I like cheap depth but I haven't been too happy with his decision making. But that could be said for most of the blueline.

It's good to see so many people who have more knowledge and a better grasp of managing a hockey club than the Nonis and the Leafs.

Funny, if one of you were managing the team we would have no depth defensemen and would be completely screwed if any injuries occur.

Good signing. Big, strong Rookie Defensive d-man. Once the top pairing gets resolved, he becomes an excellent depth option. One of Eakins favorite d-men, and will cut-down on the mistakes as he gets experience.

edit: Also, Nonis was the GM of the Marlies for several years and has seen first hand as Holzer has developed.

Hes a bottom pairing/depth dman folks and im sure his contract will reflect that. Bottom pairing dmen make mistakes. Especially young ones. Thats why they're bottom pairing. Hes also RFA, so we had to do something with him.

Good signing and I'm glad we're committed to this guy. He's young, big and plays a solid game. He'll be a good 3rd pairing guy for us. A lot of people here don't realize that players from second-tier hockey nations tend to take longer to develop and reach their full potential. Look to his fellow countrymen Christian Ehrhoff, Dennis Seidenberg and Alex Sulzer as examples.

People ***** about calling up the kids and playing the kids and getting prospects and then when the team does that they complain they're not good enough after 20 games.

Good signing. It will probably be pretty cheap and players like Holzer is where you save money under the cap to use on players like Kessel and Phaneuf.

Did anyone really expect to lose him without signing him? Regardless if you've been a fan or not, it's a no brainer to re-sign him.

Thank you!

People are so quick to rag on a guy after a couple bad plays. The guy will be a stud bottom pairing guy for us in the future. At worst, he's a cheap and reliable #7 guy who sits in the pressbox and checks in when needed.

DEPTH folks, it's a good thing!

Jeez, I'm not saying we shouldn't have re-signed the plug but the timing is odd, and rewarding bad play is just weird. A 2-year extension at the end of the year would have been OK. It's not the apocalypse it's just stupid IMO.

If he's misplaced on the depth chart, it's the coaching staff's job to fix that. It's clear he's ****ing brutal on the top-pairing and second, SO WHY PLAY HIM THERE? At least Liles can play there.

This is an end of it. The Leafs have to think about this from all angles.

Is Komisarek really ANY better than Holzer?
Is he worth 3-4 Million more than Holzer?
Can the position be filled at least adequately without spending the bank?

Part of the reason why I am upset with guys like Holzer, is our coaching staff and their decision about playing defensemen. Not. happy. at. all.

The extension kicks in next season. Makes no difference to his contract for this season and contract status has no effect on waiver-eligibility. That is determined by age and games played.

It's very comforting to realize the Leafs don't really need to target more D at this point...either via trade, FA, or through the draft.

Good place to find an organization in. Plenty of depth everywhere, with more assets on the way(Rielly, Blacker, Finn, Percy).
