How are the Wings going to fit that contract into their Cap?

EDIT:

Oh poop, Wings have 17 million in space with 17 players already under contract.

Leafs have 17 million in space with only 13 players already under contract.

your entitled to your opinion but I would rather have both, having one over the other doesn't improve the team as a whole ... FYI Perry at 10 is setting him up for some major criticism once Leaf Nation gets to see him game in game out and dissect his imperfections as a player, criticism that could very well make him be a 10 million $ long term mistake. Just saying that's a huge risk one I wouldn't do at that number but that's just me.

Having said that would love to see a Perry with Kadri and Frattin

Me too. I like him BUT i like Gards better

Wings or Blues seems like the logical fit.

If Getz was signed to $8.25 over 8 I am sure that Perry was given the same opportunity and contract.

That means he will be looking for Ovi money

i really like Perry BUT if he is asking for $9+ that would put us in cap hell.

I would rather have Kessel at $7M than Perry at $9

Perry at 9-10 mill is ludicrous.

He alone can not change a team enough to make him worth being paid 1/6th to 1/7th of the entire teams salary.

Link ---> tsn.ca/nhl and the video is on the right side called "countdown to TC: the east report"

And oh they also mentioned if we do trade Kulemin, we most likely like to move him out west.
The Coutdown had the 5 most likely to move.

Paul Statsny (worse every season for last 3, cost a lot)
Mark Streit (too old)
Morrow (old for the team)
Stafford (enough wingers)
Kennedy (no room for him)

With Getzlaf signed, Stastny is becoming more realistic every day.

No way.

Perry is better offensively and defensively than Kessel. Perry is much more physical, is a pest, and leafs by example.

Carlyle is also familiar with him/perrys familiar with Carlyle

For the extra 2 mil i'd MUCH rather have Perry. Not to mention he would be perfect with Kadri, whereas Kessel has chemistry with no Cs other than Bozak, who is not a #1 guy.

Kadri-#1 C
Perry-#1 RW

No he isn't! Perry played with Getzlaf not Bozak and still had inferior stats last season. In fact Kessel crushed him by 24 points

Perry this season with Getzlaf not Bozak has a 1pt lead on Kessel.

With the cap at 64M i think u underestimate how much 2M will be valued.

Kessel $7M >>>>>>>> Perry $9M

I have a feeling we're in for a very boring and slow trade deadline across the league.

His agent is probably looking at this:

2010-11 NHL Hart Memorial Trophy
2010-11 NHL Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy

Perry at 9m just means we would have to reshape the way our team looks, kind of drastically Mock lineup assuming we manage to sign Perry (at 9m) and rough estimates of other players we would resign:

Lupul (5.25) - Kadri (3) - Perry (9) ---- top line
JVR (4.25) - McClemant (1.5) - Kulemin (2.8) ------shutdown line
MacArthur (3.25) - Bozak (3) - Frattin (.925) ------ sheltered scoring
McLaren (1) - Komarov (1.3) - Orr (1) ------pesky don't want to mess with line
Extras: Dunno? Some Marlies players is quite possible. Maybe sign a center so Komarov can play on the wing. Regardless, 2 players, lets assume 2.5m for the both of them.

Phaneuf (6.5) - Holzer (0.8)
Franson (2.5) - Fraser (1.3)
Gunnar (2.5) - Gardiner (1.2)
Extra: Rielly? Or some other guy we sign (Kostka?). Assume 2m.

Reimer (1.8)
Scrivens (0.6)

Traded is Kessel + Grabo/Liles
Compliance Buyout is Grabo/Liles + Komi
Total cap hit is:
38.775 for forwards
16.8 for defense
2.4 for goalies
58m for the team
60m including tucker/armstrong buyouts

That extra 4m can be used to:
- find a way to save a little bit more and keep Kessel/Grabo for at least 1 year.
- improve the defense, not sure how what I listed would hold up over a full season
- use it to sign the players I did sign to more money if I underestimated
- Do nothing and keep the cap space available for future raises such as Reimer/Frattin.

Last edited by Grant: 03-08-2013 at 02:15 PM. Reason: forgot about the buyouts

With such tight standings, no one will be a willing seller to blow it all up really .. You'll see minor moves, but nothing major

Plus GM's are probably hesitant right now on anything major until they can get familiar with all the angles of the new CBA

Seeing that its impossible that Lupul plays over 40 games this season, do we get that fourth round pick from Anaheim?
