If Selanne retires and they let Koivu go, they'll have the cash. Toni Lydman is also a UFA this summer who I doubt they bring back at 3 million a year saved on the cap

Those guys need to be replaced though, which will take $. That's 3 pretty important players on their team. They also have gave Fasth a pretty big deal that kicks in next season.

It seems more like Perry wants to play closer to home than a $ issue according to the people in the know.

But as far as I know the Ducks aren't a spend to the cap team. I can't imagine them paying two players 8M+.

I'm sure they'd give him the same contract if he wants it.

If he hits the market he'll get 8.5+ over 7 years for sure.

I have no doubt that Perry will get something similar. But you really think the Ducks would give out over 16M for two players? I can't see it but maybe they will.

Pittsburgh did it with Crosby and Malkin.

For sure they need to be replaced. They have some good young players that can either come in now or let's face it if they really want Perry around they will sign him and find some role players to fill in those spots. Maybe trade Ryan and acquire more depth

True but players like Perry don't come around often enough for you to let them go

Boll and Boyle are very realistic targets that won't us much at all!

I'm sure they value Perry a lot more than Ryan.

That's why I said they have options and if they want they can keep Perry

I don't see this team in position to be handing out 8M+ contracts.

But the question is : Do we want Perry for 7+ years at 8.5m + ? Because i'm pretty sure he won't command anything lower than that , especially from the Habs with the taxes , pressure ect

Perry is good and i like him and all. It's just that those type of contracts scare the **** out of me. See : Lecavalier

God damn! Getlaf's contract, not sure I would want us to pay that much. Sure he's a great center. But over 8 mill? His contract is like in the top 10 most payed amongst forwards now. I understand the Ducks paying that much for him. They really need him and if he had left during the offseason, the team would be pretty much destroyed. Good for the Ducks and Getzlaf. As much as I find that Getzlaf's a great player, I'm really not sure that we'd want him for that much.

I guess this means Perry will be going UFA. But if he's to get this same amount, or easily more, seeing as all the teams will be going after him...

I don't know. I don't get a feeling Bergevin will make a move to sign Perry at such a high salary.

If anything, Getzlaf got a per year discount, as Anaheim was the only team able to offer 8 years. If Perry leaves and signs for 7 years, I bet he gets 9mil per.

Actually, I wonder if it'll more likely going forward that premium free agents will be traded in the offseason, before UFA day, so they can get those hometown 8 year terms from their "new" teams?

edit: Mirtle tweets "some around league" think Perry gets more than 9mil per.

Bergevin is going to have no choice but be pro active. He will need Kaberle and Gionta gone for sure, so Kaberle is a buyout and he will need to find a taker for Gionta

With those 2 gone and Ryder being a UFA it's possible but it's not going to be easy to attract him here period

Just Kaberle. Without Kaberle we'll have around 16 M of room. More than enough to sign Perry at around 8 M per, possibly give DD 2-3 M and fill out the 4th line, bottom of the D and backup G spot.

It's time to send more of our femmes fatales to Anaheim or else our chances of signing Perry is practically zero with the ridiculous taxation rate here.!
