I thought I read somewhere that MB wasn't interested in dealing assets for UFA type rentals and only for signed players so why all the talk about Clowe?

Who knows?

Montreal has had face off issues so it could be Brassard. Might be Prospal who is their leading scorer and can play any line. Could be one of the physical players like everyone wants it to be or it could be something different.

The Cole/Ryder trade proved Bergevin plays to the beat of his own drum and it's a great thing.

Since MB is looking to address 2 roster spots:

1. a puck moving defenseman.
2. a big c/w who can play top 9.

I would like to make some suggestions...

1. Jack Johnson
2. Brooks Laich, Troy Brouwer

Some people don't recommend Johnson but he's playing on a bad team. I've seen him play throughout his career, he's a top 4 and he's probably the best dman who can log 24 mins a game on the market. Its probably going to cost us Louis Leblanc, a prospect and a draft pick to get Johnson. Something like Louis Leblanc, Yannick Weber and 3rd round pick from Dallas.

Laich had a groin injury but is schedule to come back late March. Without him Washington has been horrible. He's signed for 4 more years and is 29. He's got size 6'2" 220lbs and plays his heart out (aka Prust). Troy Brouwer has size 6'4" 225lbs, plays a power game but is streaky. I think Washington might want roster player, prospects and pick. David Desharnais and our first round pick could come into play.

With a full healthy roster come playoffs, I think we can do some damage.

Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta
Pacoiretty-Laich-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Eller-Brouwer
Prust-White-Armstrong/Moen/Ryder

Subban-Johnson
Markov-Emeline
Gorges-Boullion/Diaz

Price
Budaj

Size size size. That should be a no brainer

I think Jack Johnson can be a very good player with the right coaching. He has the size and skill. Put him with a puck mover like PK and alleviate some of the pressure. I think Jack is expected to do too much now.

Plus he grew up a Habs fan and is very good friends with Crosby

Wouldn't the price be exceedingly high for him? I don't think the blockbuster kind of trade are what the habs are looking for atm. They're winning, try improving the team without completely destroying the fabric that's on the ice.

Because some people here have a complete hard on for any player with size and think Clowe is still good. The guy can barely skate at a NHL level at this point.

And I have no idea how another PMD can be viewed as a need. Our D is tops in the league for points. Our PP is rolling.

No to JJ. Diaz is just fine as the puck mover we are missing. I like Laich (no pun intended) but don't want to trade our first. DD is also playing very well right now. Better to add Clowe and maybe a Boll or Bordeleau forthe Leafs and Bruin games. Try to get someone to take Kaberle and add Cory Sarich for a 3rd or 4th.

If he's gonna be cheap and MB believe he can sign him to an additional 2-3 years contract, that's not a rental.

A puck-moving defensmen

We need size and grit. That. Is. All. We have everything else in bundles. We gotta stick with the Bergevin plan no matter how good our season is. We have a ton of NHL potential prospects in the system, but few big boys and even fewer that can play and take on the tougher players of our division.

Size, grit and top-end forward, comes playoff time we might want a go-to guy who can score some timely goals. Iggy and Clowe would be two welcomed addition.

Hell no. Sarich is way too slow and not tough enough.

We need a guy like Iginla. Flames won't make playoff.

1st pick + 3 rd pick + Collberg

Iginla + a big guy for our fourth line instead of Armstrong and we are in business.

I don't want a rental.

This team could be good for years to come because our Core is young and we have some nice prospects that will make it.

BTW, we need to get bigger and tougher. Boll would be perfect.

Unless Iggy wants to retire he could be signed to an extention. And at worst somedy has to take the bullet and give Iggy a shot at the cup.

You're willing to trade Collberg for a rental? I'm not.

If it gives us a cup, yes that's worth a shot.

I would definitely not trade Collberg and a first in this year's draft for a rental, even if his name is Iginla.
