A Little Insight to what Bowman is looking for to improve the Hawks

A little insight to what the Hawks might be looking for in the trade market.

Quote:
BLACKHAWKS
The Blackhawks had internal meetings last week in which they drew up their short-list of trade targets.

"Weíve identified players that we think would help us," Bowman told ESPN.com. "Iíve called to let those teams know: 'This is a player weíre interested in, you may not be interested in moving him now or ever, but ...' they take note of it. Nobody Iíve talked to yet has wanted to talk further about it, they filed it away. So itís a waiting game."

The Hawks roster doesn't really have any gaping holes. But Bowman has a type of player in mind heís inquiring about.

"Iím probably more looking up front, depth maybe at center," said Bowman. "Not high-end but more a role-playing type center."

Bowman likes his forward depth in the minors, pointing to the likes of Brandon Pirri, Jimmy Hayes and Jeremy Morin.

"Weíve got young guys knocking at the door," he said. "But I guess most of our depth is young guys, so if we add a forward, itíll be a more experienced guy."

Basically, a John Madden-type center.

who'd fit that description?

An experienced centre for a depth role.

Think Jay McClement, Marcel Goc, Eric Belanger type players.

Leafs undoubtedly are looking to trade Steckel. Fits the criteria:

1. Center
2. Role Player (face off specialist and is decent on the PK)

Also a UFA at the end of the year. Having a guy out on the ice to a win a key faceoff in the defensive zone late in the 3rd period has to be worth something.

I imagine a guy like Marcel Goc or someone of that type is what he would want

Looks like another deadline of disappointment for Hawks fans and another year of pretending our #2 C issue doesn't exist

Yeah.. because the best thing for the best team in the NHL to do is make a big splash.

So Hawks should ignore the poor 2nd line that Kane has had to carry all year by himself and pretend Bolland isn't failing as #2 C just because team has good record?

I prefer the Hawks improving there lineup and not hoping that somehow Bolland turns it around

The Hawks 2nd line when they won the Cup was:

Brouwer - Sharp - Hossa

Chicago's current 2nd line:

Sharp - Bolland - Kane

The difference? Bolland actually wants to play centre and can outproduce Brouwer.

You're way too concerned with who the 2nd line centre is. All the 2nd line centre has to do is be good defensively (which Bolland is) and chip in their share of offense (which Bolland has). Just because he's not putting up great numbers doesn't mean he's been bad in that role.

I don't see Hawk fans crying over Chicago's 1st line LW position, where Saad only has 3 goals and 5 points in 21 games. Why? Because Toews and Hossa have been producing, like Kane and Sharp have been.

He is looking for a hockey player who plays hockey, is of age and plays for another team. Possibly as a center. So he called some people. Who took note of his calls.

The quality journalism here is thrilling.

Iginla and Alfredsson are the only two that come to mind in the context of this. Unless there's another darkhorse out there that is an older veteran player who hasn't won the cup yet but can contribute

Can either Alfredson or Iginla play LW well?

With Hossa/Kane at RW in top 6 those 2 wont fit and the Hawks biggest need continues to be C

So not sure how acquiring a top 6 LW works

Jim Slater , 4th line , good at face offs , good contract . Doubt Wpg is looking to move him if they are in the playoff race though , but there is history for the organizations and Wpg. likes young talent.

Hawks have needed a 2nd line C that can win faceoffs since Sharp stopped playing the position after the Cup win...Bolland, Kruger, Shaw lousy at FOs.

- Bolland has not been playing well in any facet of game this year
- Sharp has not been producing at ES on 2nd line

The Hawks have "needed" a 2nd line centre that can win faceoffs since before they forced Sharp into centre during the Cup season. Chicago hasn't had a true 2nd line centre since Robert Lang. That includes the teams that went to the Western Conference Finals and the team that won the Cup.

Way too much emphasis is being put on that "hole".
