I thought this was one of the worst games from our back end (as a collective group) we've had all year. Hammer was late reacting on the first goal and had another misplay that lead to the penalty. Then Keith, who can't seem to clear a puck to save his life, bungled a clear on the Hammer penalty that lead to the goal. We were awful around our own net in general after the first. Not a pretty game for 40 minutes.

Aside from the bad breakdown that led to the first goal, the first period was very dominant. Saad was a man amongst boys (easily the best player on the ice tonight) and our puck possession, forecheck, and zone penetration were phenomenal. Thankfully we held on and claimed another victory.

It says a lot about this team with how they are able to pull games out versus the last couple of seasons. Those years? We have a very good chance at losing this game. Our defense tried to, but Crawford wouldn't let them give it away.
I noticed a lot of this as well. Parts of the team seem like they're just getting a little too comfortable piling up all these wins... tbh tomorrow I have a bad feeling might be the night.

However, so far this season when parts of the team has slumped, someone has always stepped up... tonight is probably a somewhat embarrassing loss without the big nights from Bickell and Saad.

Good win. Looking forward to some fun games with them next year when they're in our division (if that happens of course)

Yep. Last year our depth players RARELY carried this team. There wasn't many nights where the off wing in the top 6 carried us or when our 3rd or 4th line was the best line on the ice. This year the young guys are stepping up big time which allows us to win games in which are stars are largely invisible.

I wouldn't mind seeing Q give significantly less minutes to Seab's and Keith just for two games. Keith plays like a #5 defenseman when the Hawks are sitting on a 2 goal lead or more.

Give Hjalmarsson & Oduya more minutes against Colorado the next 2 games. I would like to see Seab's & Keith's minutes reduced to about 18-19 minutes a game and Oduya & Hjalmarsson's go up to 23 minutes a game. Just for two games.

I think doing stuff like that keeps things from getting stagnant. Far from stagnant but we get to comfortable when we get a lead. Plus the defense playing soft hurts Crawford's numbers.

I'm sure this has been covered ad-nauseam but I've been in Beijing the past week or so, and will be until August, and not watching any of these games is killing me. So, what are some of the best sites to stream games? Hopefully (and I should be able to) I can get around the firewall here in China.

Can we start the playoffs were as hot as hell and we'd smoke any team in the West right now. I want to go now, I want the Hawks to just stomp everyone.

You probably haven't noticed, but both have way less ice time this year than in years past. Not relying on just those two is also one of the less discussed reasons why Chicago is doing so well.

Saad showing flashes of just what he's going to become. Seemed snake-bitten for a lot of the year but I love the way this kid plays. Really strong on the puck. Very fast skater. Makes smart plays. Backchecks hard. Just 20 years old. Wow. Major 2nd round steal.

(2011-12 -> 2012-13)

Keith 26.53 -> 23.58
Seabrook 24.43 -> 23.11
Hjalmarsson 20.10 -> 20.56
Leddy 22.04 -> 16.04

Competent defensive depth in the form of Oduya and Roszival. Much nicer than relying on O'Donnell, Olsen, or Lepisto where you're just hoping to keep them off the ice as long as possible because you know nothing positive will happen.

Awesome win.

Tomorrow's game will be much like Columbus game recently. Colorado won't back down, they're in need of points, they're definitely going to come out and give it their all. Since the Hawks play them back to back (tomorrow and Friday), they can't be taken lightly. Hope the boys come out with some energy early.

I just love listening to Barry Melrose, he gives us so much props. He loves us, he was one of the few if not the only sports analyst back in Summer 2009 that thought we could win a Cup that season, everybody else was going Caps, Pens, Wings and for good reason obviously but he really liked our team. we're such a good team I'm just so happy to watch these guys.

Saad's a keeper. He's baby Hossa. If just one of our center prospects turns into a capable top 9 player we've got the youngsters to keep churning out cheap NHL role players for the next half decade without adding any of the prospects we'll draft.

Exciting times to be a Hawks fan.

Not surprised one bit about Saad. Even when he wasn't scoring in Rockford, he was often the best player on the ice. Just a real cerebral player who is only going to get better.

Saad looked like the best player on the ice last night. Maybe they took the foot off the gas because they have a game tonight. But the first period showed how dominant they can be.
