Flyers fan coming in peace. What's Disco thinking on the Despres move? Eaton couldn't even stay in the NHL earlier in the season. I've also been impressed by Despres in the 5 or 6 Pens games I've seen this season.

Eaton's a veteran and Bylsma loves his veterans. But to be honest, Eaton has played fine so far.

Nobody knows, but in all fairness to Eaton, he's looked pretty solid in the games he's played so far. He brings a steady veteran presence on the blue line.

However, I hope Bylsma alternates the 3rd pair every so often. Eaton was playing when Martin was hurt. Now with 5, 6, 7, and 8 being Eaton, Engelland, Despres, Bortuzzo, I hope he makes some changes and gives them some ice time, for example...

Eaton-Engelland
Despres-Engelland
Eaton-Bortuzzo
Despres-Bortuzzo

Yeah, Eaton has been fine. He shouldn't be playing over Despres but he's looked good.

It's not like Eaton wasn't picked up because he was bad, there simply wasn't a demand for a 3rd-pairing veteran. It's not all that surprising, really.

While he seems to have been brought on-board for post-season depth, after watching him play I think he could add a bit more to the roster. Not necessary in top-pairing caliber play, but more so in setting an example for responsible defense. No he won't make the highlight reels, but equally important, he won't make the blooper reels either (at least not if he continues to play the way he is). If there is one thing the Pens defense could use, it's more discipline.

Elephant in the room is Engelland, but he's a double edged sword.

Pairings right now should be:

Orpik-Martin
Letang-Despres
Eaton-Niskannen

I'd have zero qualms about that lineup. But Engelland unfortunately one of those guys you need on the ice, or this team literally has zero toughness.

Not bad at all. However, if it were me though I'd play 7D so Engelland could get in there. Scratch TK. He blows.

So they release the official line up yet or is it what's on the first post?

The way I see it. Letang and Martin should be playing 25+ minutes in all situations. Despres/Brooks/Nisky get 18-20. And Engelland 13-15 mostly at ES. Eaton should only be playing over those guys when injuries hit.

Won't know for another two hours, most likely. I believe the graphic in the first page was made a few days ago because UM puts a lot of time and work into his GDTs.

Well, I've been an advocate of starting 7 D for a long time.

Gets rid of a useless asset on the 4th line, and gets your better forwards out there for extra shifts.

Does anyone think that maybe the Pens are trying to get a larger sample size of Eaton to see if he indeed can be reliable if we choose to trade a defenseman?

I'd say it's as good a speculation as any.

Bylsma trolling the media (and board indirectly) with "Fingernail Issue". Stop and think about that one for a second folks.

If he doesn't play it's either to get a look at other pairings, or he could end up playing anyway. What happens in practice is not always a concrete representation of what happens in games lineup-wise. No use getting bent out of shape. Everyone including the coaches know how well Despres played in that Montreal game (and others) and what his potential is. They're just taking it slow, plain and simple.

Sucks but what can you do.

Engelland is the only guy clearing the crease right now & coming off a great game. No way he's sits.

Definitely.

Still doesn't explain why Despres always draws the short stick.

I just don't think Despres should be out of the lineup.

Eaton's been good, I think Bortuzzo should get in the lineup over Engelland some nights.

EDIT: Did I overreact? Maybe

I guess it's not as stupid as I originally thought.

Some things i would like to see (other than a Pens win)

-Attack the Flyers' D...they are slow
-Initiate physically, dont wait for Brayden Schenn or Zac Rinaldo to run a third player before you decide to hit.
-Skate away from the BS ( looking at you Letang)
-Marc-Andre Fleury making a major difference than Vokoun a few weeks ago.
-Beau Bennett settling in early.
-The defense clearing out the crease, preventing any garbage goals.

I am not disagreeing with that, and I am whole heartedly on the Despres needs to play train. DB said a few weeks back he likes going with more physical lineup (Bort/Engo) against very physical teams. Now with Despres playing very well EATON gets the start over him? Sounds to me like Despres is just being sheltered a little bit, which is stupid. DB is starting to get on my nerves and I for one am a fan of his.

If it's anything like the Gangnam fad I'm proud to say I haven't seen or heard it yet and don't intend to seek out any further knowledge of it. I've never been to Harlem, am not going to Harlem in my lifetime and dance like a white guy (therefore having no interest in same).
