Rosi is 34 and has had issues staying healthy. Giving him a couple of nights off every once in a while is the right move.

overpaid bottom pairing D who wasn't worth the 2nd AND 3rd round pick in what is basically the best and deepest draft in history

What % of 2nd or 3rd round DP contribute what Oduya is right now? The best draft in recent history (2003) had 7 guys in the 2nd round, and 1 guy in the 3rd round who are better than Oduya is right now. That comes out to about a 25% combined chance of getting an equivelant player. Hard to complain about the price we paid to get him IMO.

He definitely came up small in the P/O's last year, but then again, he had a lot of company in that category. IMO - he's a real good fit fo the Hawks transition system. That being said, there are times when he gets pinned in his own zone, and the lack of physical play hurts.

Oduya has played good this year, I wouldn't say great. He's definitely a solid #4 and a great addition for this team. We have lots of prospects as it is, and the odds that either of those 2 picks turn into something better than Oduya is small. Sure he has a questionable turnover every game or 2, but he makes up for it during the rest of the game.

Oduya has been good for this Hawks team, and anyone who doesn't think so has probably had a problem with him ever since he joined, and therefore has a closed mind towards him. Some people have unreal expectations of players and just think every single player on the ice should play perfect all game every game. Maybe if the cap was twice what it is now, we could get a team full of first liners, and first pairing defenders, but it's not. Lower your expectation for players as you move down in pairings and you'll realize that our 2nd pairing is one of the best in the league, if not the best right now.

That's my bad! I think I'm so used to people murdering Oduya that I automatically assume the worst!

Any defensemen the Hawks should acquire should be able to skate. If you can't skate you will stick out like a sore thumb on this roster and be a major liability. People that wanted a lug like Barrett Jackman were misguided. Oduya made the roster better immediately upon joining. The funny thing the same people whining that Bowman WASN'T DOING ANYTHING were also the people complaining that he gave SUPER VALUABLE 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Don't forget Sopel. It's easy to glorify him after the fact since they won the Cup in 2010 for his shot-blocking on the PK but man was he a pylon at times.

I supported Sopel back then. He was GREAT at keeping the puck in the offensiv zone when it came his way. Never did get past him when he was near the boards.
