So really, we draft well?????? I don't think so.
It obviously depends on the metrics you personally decide to use in assessing success in the draft.

But, as demonstrated numerous times on HFBoards and through articles by notable hockey analysts (all using similar metrics, typically percentage of draft picks making it to the NHL), Buffalo is almost always in the top three along with Detroit.

So yes, based on the metrics I choose, they are one of the better drafting teams in the league.

How about:

Ennis for Statsny.

Buffalo gets a more experienced centerman who has (somewhat) of a two way game. Could let Hodgson move down to a 2nd line role and get away from tougher checking.

And...get this...he's #7 in the league on faceoffs.

Would love to find a way to get Tyson Barrie out of Colorado.

I would definitely like to see Reggie get some PP time. He's a better option than anybody other than 'Hoff IMO.

Stastny isn't $4 million better than Ennis.

The guy is already producing like a #1 center, I have no problem with him taking his lumps against the best players and becoming better defensively. Especially considering this team obviously isn't going anywhere in the near future.

If we have the opportunity to add a top-line center that pushes Cody to 2nd line, we do it (Not saying that Stastny is that guy, because he's not).

That Tippett quote is exactly why I cringe every time someone suggests we add another Regehr type.

Guys that have little to no ability to competently move the puck out of their own zone are going the way of the dinosaur.

the type of top line centers that would push Cody to the 2nd line, aren't available in trade, period.

Draft picks are nice, but I do wonder about Winnipeg's prospects. Obviously, Trouba and Scheifele are going nowhere. Also, though his name is floated on the trade boards a bit, I don't see them giving up on Burmistrov, either. If we're giving up Stafford or Pominville, I'd want at least one already-drafted prospect.

JFB and Woodhouse, what are your feelings about Kosmachuk (Guelph) and Adam Lowry (Swift Current) outside of their counting numbers. Lowry looks like a big kid (6'5'', 205), and had a huge jump in goals this year (12 to 45). Is he the real deal, or just a bigger, older kid dominating in his second junior season after being a NHL draft pick? Kosmachuk appears to be a guy who finds the net a bit (30 and 35 goals the last two seasons) on a Guelph team that doesn't looked uber-stocked with talent. What's his deal?

Yes, Woodhouse, thanks.

IIRC Kosmachuk was only behind Yakupov among OHL eligibles in goals last year. He's a gritty goal-scoring winger with a motor and a two-way skill set, but battles consistency issues as he can disappear in games. He's also got average-to-smaller size (5'11"-ish).

Lowry has the size and pedigree (father=NHLer), but I see him more as a bottom-6 grinder who will use his size; not enough skill+snipe+speed for top-6 IMO. I believe he switched to center after battling injuries in the past and posted a 21-game point streak this season.

Since 2010 Stastny has scored 126 points in 177 games (.71 ppg).Ennis has scored 101 points in 156 games (.65 ppg). The 5 extra points Stastny is averaging per 82 games along with any upgrade on defense/at the dot isn't worth an extra 3.8 million dollar caphit IMO.Not to mention Ennis is nearly 4 years younger.I'll pass on a straight up deal.I would entertain Stastny+1st for Ennis+ 2nd though

Is this good enough to win a cup?

Sabres top 9 in 2015.

Vanek - MacKinnon - Patrick Kane
Foligno - Grigorenko - Armia
Girgensons - Hodgson - Flynn

If we get optimistic with development/regression, sure.
