They're not affiliated but alot of QMJHL prospects play in the Maritime Hockey League.

I see. Let's say Halifax Mooseheads drafted a player from Amherst Ramblers, they eventually sign him and then he's not playing well enough for the Mooseheads, he would have to be assigned back to Amherst? Or could he be assigned anywhere?

The player would go back to whoever holds his MHL rights. Like Brennan Bailey would go back to playing for the Crushers because that's who holds his rights.
